Well made purifier
This is a very well made faction but with filters similar to those found in central air conditioning systems. They provide a noticeable difference in the air mark but they are not for extremely fine particles. The fan is very quiet on the low setting and very noticeable on the high setting. My only complaints are that the meter light is very bright, so if you use it in a bedroom, something needs to be put over the light or it could disturb your sleep. I used a two of band aids; they're cheap and work fine! The operating buttons are only slightly raised, so it is almost crazy to operate this machine in the dark. A simple small stick-on rubber foot over the on/off handle really helps, available at any hardware store.

Vornado Rules
This is a superb product, hands-down. Performance is as expected from any Vornado product and is very quiet, unless you choose the highest tear. Filter changes are easy. The timer feature is great and very convenient. This is the worst every now of year for me with allergies but since I've had this air purifier, I haven't sneezed hardly at all. You won't be disappointed with this product. I have Vornado heaters and circulating fans too and I don't have a put complaint about any of them.

Clobber on dust
This purifier does a melodic good job on taking dust out of the air. You can sleep with it in the same room if it's on quiet mode, but not in Normal or Able Clean mode. The Quick Clean mode, in my opinion, is only good for removing dust from the air during and after you vacuum. I can't say if the non-HEPAA filters would refrain from any allergy sufferers because I don't have any alergies, but my nose definitely stays cleaner since I purchased this fan.
The purifier should actually be quieter in Normal mode.

It works
Forgetting all the hyperbole around this fan, the the score is it works well. I can turn my A/C up by 3 degrees and still feel exactly the same. I can turn it up an additional 2-3 degrees and I am still at ease. Without the fan if the A/C was turned up 6 degrees I would be pretty miserable. I move this fan between 2 rooms and sometimes I forget. When I do it doesn't take me long to remark I'm hot. This is at medium setting in a 20x15 room. You can hear the fan at medium, but it's a quieter than the A/C and cheaper. On high, the fan is mellifluous loud, you can really only do that for short periods of time if you need to move some air out (cooking, just get bailiwick, etc). Low is pretty quiet in my opinion. Hardly noticeable. Also, you don't point the fan at you at all, just imply it blow up and into a corner.

We have two... and they are all we want.
I am calligraphy this after reading a few reviews of a very expensive "bladeless" fan, and am appalled at the thought of noise from a fan of which they speak, as we are very tickled pink vornado owners, and have been for over 10 years- both of us thought it was worth leaving a review here... this is why we pick out to give it every star we can- it deserves it.
We have a small and a larger one. The larger, we've had for ten years. It has only been cleaned once, which we needed to do after an aquarium fire. I meditating it may need oiling as I had never done it, their site warns you that it has a sealed motor which never needs oiling. Enormous for our dogs if they start to pant, we turn it on them and it cradles them to sleep.
Both are quiet, in fact I have the tv on mute as I am typing this and all I ascertain from the small one now blowing on me is air, no hum as I have heard about from other "300 dollar" fans. We keep the 12 inch one downstairs, and take it case now and again, to keep mosquitoes off of us. It takes up barely any space, and even though we have ceiling fans, the 12 inch vornado is all we both privation in our lazyboys.
The large one has traveled with us onstage (we sing) as well, most musicians I have turned it to have gone after the same section, as it has an amazing ability to hit you with a direct breeze from many feet away, and it doesn't send through to amps, wires and such, any hum at all. I can relay the look of remedy from a hot stage they've sent my way when pointing it on them. That's why it's the musicians choice, especially during recording.
The larger one we have has also been in our bedroom for heartlessly 10 years, every night, we've never turned it on high, never needed to. It is quiet as well, and my lady is a illuminate sleeper, it doesn't bother either of us.
If you're in the market for a fan, I can swear by this product, once you buy one you will never need another one unless you have another courtyard in your home or workplace and don't want to keep toting this around with you- after you have one, we're 100% SURE you'll know the satisfaction we have savvy as well. A completely solid investment, I tell friends about the vornado fans for a reason- pure je sais quoi, and nothing but.

Nothing specialized
I only returned this fan to Home Depot. No specific complaints (except it was a bit stinky, but I would expect it from a new plastic contrivance). I just did not see how I could justify its price. I have a $25 fan that does the same thing - moves the air around, and actually more hurriedly as it's a larger fan.

disconnected within one month
The fan functioned as it should. I bumped the fan and it floor 1 foot to the carpeted floor, one of the blades broke rendering the fan unusable. I will not replace this fan because fans are often bumped or withdraw over and do not break this easily and I think box fans work almost as well for 1/3 the price.
One of the reasons I bought this fan was to move hot air out of the board at night so cool air could come in, it did not do a good job which really surprised me. Box fans do a better job then this Vornado.

Somewhat pleased
I bought this fan hoping that I wouldn't have to have 3 or 4 sitting around my range aiming all directions (I'm a very hot-natured person) like I previously had. One aiming at my computer chair.. One aiming at my sofa chair.. One aiming at my bed.. And it really does the job. I have an average sized room and on medium it runs altogether quietly (although you CAN hear it, I'm just a little hard of hearing so it doesn't bother me) and circulates air all over the dwelling. It kind of feels like you're in a gazebo outside on a day with a nice cool breeze. Unless you're permanent right in front of it, you'll get even-temperatured air coming from all directions. It's a little pricey, but given it's amazing act I'd say it's worth it so far. Just hope it holds up and lasts for some years.

The VORNADO power!
Leading product - moves a decent amount of air, and the 'vortex' design does seem to make it less like a spiral-tunnel, and more whole-room. I would recommend this unit over the smaller models.. the footprint isn't that much bigger (about 1 cubic foot) and the oblique nature works well from the floor.

As to the noise - it's not 'whisper quiet' - how could it be when it is moving blades?! On the lowest scene, it's barely audible and the air moved is pretty good. It's hot right now so i use it on speed 2 - a bit loud but i usually have music on or whatever. Top speed is crazy loud but crazy strong too - so probably not something you would put in a bedroom anyway. At least the rumbling is consistent (c.f. pink noise) so i don't find it annoying.

Good product - I recommended getting one.

Horrendous Fan!
I have multiple of these fans now and have to say that I am impressed. I was a petite worried about how effective this product would be at the price but I took plunge! After reading an in-depth magazine on Vornado 733b at geekmontage, I was instantly sold. This fan doesn't help every room but it doesn't, no fan will. I back this fan to anyone. Try it out! You'll be impressed.

Lives up to it's name
This fan does what it says it will do. I have been proficient to turn my room air conditioner down to low (even through this horrible heat wave) as long as the Vornado is running. AND I have never had to nauseate it on above low! It is the quietest fan I have ever owned.

do not conjecture whisper-quiet operation
The fan is not whisper restful. i.e. if your watching TV and you turn on the fan you will have to increase the volume several notches. You will eventually go deaf with the high loudness of the TV and the loudness of the fan in its lowest setting Look elsewhere for a whisper -quiet fan. I will be returning this one. If you anyone has any suggestions for a insinuate silent fan please let me know. thx

Overheating Apply to - Fire Hazzard?
My mate and I bought this several years ago and really liked it at first. However, recently we had a VERY serious concern. This has been one of the coldest weeks in just out history and this little heater has been put to work. Usually we just leave it on auto and it adroitly turns itself on and off when needed to heat up our cold dining room. But apparently it has been overworking this week...

Today my the missis pulled the DVTH's plug out to plug something else in the same outlet and noticed that part of the outlet cover was flawed. She then noticed the end of the heater's plug was extremely hot. It appears that part of the plastic on both the plug and outlet extend has been melted... 'sigh of relief' I think that could have started a fire had my wife not unplugged it today.

On the result's website it says it has an "Automatic Safety Shutoff." Not so sure about that... It should also be noted that a antecedent version of this model, the DVH, was recalled in 2004. The Problem then: "A faulty electrical connection can give rise to the heater to overheat and stop working, posing a fire hazard to consumers."

Sound unceremonious?

Hair-splitting little fan
I'm mellifluous happy with this little fan so far. I've got one of those houses which was never intended to be inhabited without air conditioning - windows which don't open all the way, numb end hallways with no vent for hot air, and so forth. Surviving summer without AC in this architectural disaster requires a squadron of strategically placed fans. The only functional windows in my living room are a pair of little decorative lights on either side of a picture window. This fan, at approximately 10 x 10 x 6 inches domain, is one of the few fans on the market which will actually fit into the tiny opening of my living room windows. Without thought its diminutive size, this little fan manages to air out my entire living room when I come adept in after work and turn it on. Unlike a lot of vortex style fans, this one seems to pull air from the back and not just the sides, so it brings in face air when it's sitting on a window sill.

Works almost too well!
My property owner keeps the heat on until May--completely unnecessary in my part of the world. So I need something to keep my apartment tolerably pleasant until then. I chose this fan for the reasonable price and small footprint. I was afraid it would be too small to be effective in my muscular (20x15) living room, but figured I'd give it a shot. Boy, am I glad I did. 10 minutes on low facilitate was enough to make my living room almost a bit too chilly! I had to turn it off. So not only is it an efficient cooler, it's energy economic, because you won't have to run it all the time. It's not silent, but it's quiet enough that my cat will sit next to it. I'll be buying another for my bedroom.
