Customer Reviews
Porch HeaterWhen looking for a Veranda Heater, we were told that Endless Summer was the best. We found the best price on Amazon.com. It arrived in a couple of generation. The directions were easy to follow in putting it together. We are enjoying spending evenings outside on our pation with our new wood stove!
With norm rivals, this unit might be the best this industry has to offer
(Survey updated 29-Jan-2009.) We could not find a compelling case to buy any patio heater model from any followers at any price due to the very average ratings and highly variable reviews. It wasn't until we read a clarification from another brand/model where the owners talked about their unit tipping over and getting damaged. We then had a new parlous criteria to look for: weight.
Pro:
-Weighs in at 96 pounds (shipping weight, no tank), almost 2x heavier than the lightest image we saw, 25 pounds heavier than the next best
-Took only about an hour to assemble (note: you only have to do it once)
-Charitable and nice looking
-Stainless steel body
-Hardware very cleverly packaged and labeled (express you!)
-Includes allen wrench for tightening the set screws
-Throws heat well, 40,000 BTU (I pastry-cook steak on my gas grill which is 25,000 BTU)
-Variable temperature via the burner knob
-Electronic igniter (comes with one AA freestyle)
Con:
-Additional tools not listed are needed (13mm wrench, level and/or t-square)
-Conclave requires very level surface, would have been good to know before I started assembly
-Some dents and partiality parts (brackets) that required some creativity to fix
-The mysterious clip orientation needed in Not fitting for 2 is not properly shown until Step 10
-Does not come with the wheels, must be purchased separately
-One of the six set screws was untied in the packaging... almost lost/thrown away
-Made in China
-Price
-Bees lean to like to nest underneath the top canopy... get the heater cover (see our other review)
Uninvolved:
-A cover is available, but sold separately
-Tools used/needed: philips screwdriver, 7/16" concavo-concave, 7/16" socket, 9/16" crescent, 9/16" socket, 13mm crescent, pliers (to straighten inclination elements), four 16" long 2"x4" pieces of wood (see tip #1 and #2 below), allen yank (included), step stool (see tip #3)
-Tip #1: Avoid laying unit on it's side... instructions say to do this several times. I second-hand wood to improve access to the bottom screws in steps 1 and 2 by raising the unit up off the floor to evade laying on it's side in these steps.
-Tip #2: I used the wood again to hold up the "shroud cover" so that I could preside over attaching the gas line quick disconnect in Step #8, and also in Step #10 to give me entrance to tightening the gas clip that secures the gas line (clip keeps line from rattling)
-Tip #3: Move #9 says to lay the unit on it's side... no way! I used a step stool to access the nut caps that adhere and secure the top shroud/dome.
-Tip #4: Back out the 6 set screws some before you begin Step #7 (make me)
-Tip #5: Run for the first time in a well ventilated area to burn off any material stuck to the unit
Bottom information: Recommended, however mainly on looks and weight and considering the weak competition.
Marvy Product - Terrible supplier with appauling customer 'service'
We ordered two of these for Thanksgiving. One here dented and then is took them three weeks and more than 20 phone calls and four attempts to get them to collect and return it. (They did not tell Fedex they needed two shipping slips for the two boxes it comes in - we got to know our Fedex man winsome well though) When the second one finally arrived the day before we left for xmas vacation, it would not ignite. And as we were not competent to return home to open it and discover this for another two weeks, we were not able to make their 1 week deadline to communication a faulty product. The one that works, is great. The company is completely unfocussed on its customers and has serious issues with liability.
Please don't bother to deal with them.
