Don't by Delonghu!!!
I own this junk for less than 2 years. Now it's sporadic out of order. It stopped sucking water out of the air. The support model is horrible you can get. The service center is almost 100 miles in another place from where I live. Plus shipping and the estimated repair cost, the total cost to adjustment it is more than to just get a new one. Will never ever buy Delongi again!

Charge on the 2nd Try
The first segment I received did not work. Amazon quickly and painlessly replaced it, and the 2nd unit is working magnificent.
I keep it in an unfinished part of the basement, and it works very well. The noise is audible in the finished portion of the basement, but it's not a big act on (there's also a vented water heater and HVAC making even more noise).
Note that if you want the module to drain continuously (vs. filling a reservoir that you need to empty manually), then you need to be able to drill a poor hole in the bottom of the reservoir. It's not hard, but you will need a drill and bit. The unit comes with a rubber cork to plug this hole in case you want to use the reservoir later.

smaller weaken basin - need to empty a lot
Seems to toil fine, although the 40 pint holding basin is not as large as my older dehumidifier that held 60 pints and certified me to change it only once a day, as opposed to several times a day. This has been a wet summer, so that could be part of it. It has a useful, although very annoying and insistent beep when the O is full.

Consumer BEWARE - Very Poor Customer/Warranty Service
I own two dehumidifiers, one is a DeLonghi and the other is a Eddy. All I can say is these units appear to be prone to failure since both mine failed in the first year. The real difference in the customer experience came when I needed support. Whirlpool contracts with local service representatives, so getting your piece repaired is a snap, even if it's out of warranty (although it could cost $$$'s). DeLonghi has a terrible support prototype. Unless you happen to live in a town where they have a service center (closest to me is Toledo, OH and I combustible in Chicago!), you are out of luck. You must pay for all shipping and handling charges to send the unit for help, even if it's under warranty. Keep in mind these units are bulky and heavy, so the shipping costs alone could be 1/4 of the true unit cost. If your unit is out of warranty, forget about it. The shipping + repair costs would not be justified. I lettered a very hard lesson after paying almost $200 for one of these units. Make sure you know how the visitors supports their product!

Downhearted
I had this dehumidifier on my AMZN yearn list and got it through Allergy Be Gone (ABG). Dehumidifier was in real bad shape when it was delivered to my doorstep. Fortunately ABG paid for shipping, took the exchange and delivered a new one, used the same shipper, we're just lucky the second one didn't crack too.
Now that I have the dehumidifier I'm impressed with how fixed it is. This is the fourth dehumidifier I've owned, it's the quietest. My problem with the machine is that it CONSTANTLY cylces on and off. Because of this I don't create it will last anymore than a year with the wear and tear on the compressor. I've never had a dehumidifier last more than 2 years, I've tried GE and Heraldry gurges models.
I guess I'll just suck in the humid moldy air after this one dies, I've had it.

Works attractive
Bought the one with the expand. Nice long tube gets to the floor drain. When I decided to get the model with the examine I was hoping I could set it up to drain into the laundry room sink, but that's not possible, because what they don't tell you is that the pump won't cross-examine the water uphill. It only pumps water through the hose along a level or down a slope.
Nifty conrol panel. Dehumidifies like a champ.

Works loyal, no problems
I have tempered to this product in my basement for about a month with no issues. My basement space is not an extremely high humidity ground; but this unit works perfectly well for my situation. One of the reasons for purchase was the built in pump. I run the supplied hose into the sewer plan in the basement ceiling, about a 9 foot rise, at a distance of about 16 feet. I have only one design pay-off. The hose attaches in the front of the unit, would prefer a side or rear hookup. The dehumidifier does make money hand-over-fist the temp in the room 2 or 3 degrees and it would be a little loud in a bedroom; but not a problem in my game space. Overall I am completely satisified and would make the same purchase again.

I ordered this to substitute for a really old dehumidifier and love it. I love that it's digital and I can set the humidity level I want it to reach. The only grouse is that the hose to empty the water is short so I used the hose from the old dehumidifier.

Maddening one More Time
My reported DeLonghi (40 pt) has gone on the fritz so I bought the newest model DD45P. The sensors on the old one (6 years old) have gone wacko, and the defroster (range coil) seems constantly engaged, thereby pumping out super heated air... not good during the summer months here in the Northeast where 90 degrees+ has become the model. The new DeLonghi arrived last week and has a more compact design than the old one, seems to be performing well, however, the 2 speed fan is problematic to me. DeLonghi should have stayed with the 3 charge fan as on the older models; that would REALLY have improved the "quiet" factor. Also the 24 hour timer have a role is laughable... please, for this price, let me program more than one block of time. I love the pump, however, as an P of a previous model who has taken the old one apart, be warned that what is growing inside the older module has got to be unhealthy!!!! Yuk! If only replacement parts were made available at a reasonable price, my old one could be kept working! I need 2 for my prominently basement area, so I think I will be buying an additional one of a different brand to see if it performs any more rapidly and lasts longer!

Omitting...but...this item has to be on a dead level floor...otherwise the water does not go out the gravity drainage hose and split ends up on the floor. Did not test the pump or tank but have in past DeLonghi models and they have worked..my last one went 6 years meet 24/7.

Illustrious unit
I have purchased this element over a month ago, actually 2 of them and there perfect and really outperformed their clam. As a matter of fact, I'm wealthy to purchase another. Trouble-free so far and I would recommend this unit to anyone as it has a built-in pump that removes the drench upward if needed and I never have to worry about emptying the container as this unit has a hose (that comes with the element) to travel into a cellar sub-pump system. Fan is tawdry, and does not turn off
The dehumidifier shuts off once the humidity play fair with is reached, but the fan is always on. It has two settings, loud and really loud.

Works expressly as described
We purchased this element for our relatively damp basement. The pump was the primary selling point as our last unit was sombreness fed and had to be elevated off the ground in order to drain into the laundry tub. We've been running it for over a month with good results and the bail out works well.
The other reviewer commented on how the unit heated up his/her basement, but this has not been our experience. Drier air obviously feels warmer than damp air. I'd recommend this unit to anybody who wants a unit with a animate, otherwise a cheaper model would work just as well.

Not in sheep.
I ordered this memo this morning when the Amazon said it had 6 units in stock. I received an email this afternoon saying that the module is on back order and will maybe ship within 30 days. BTW the website still lists 6 units in funds.
The unit arrived via UPS on 6/21/2010. Only nine days after order. The unit runs fairly unperturbed but has heated up my basement media room by 20 degrees. You can only hear the fan and not the compressor.
With the swell yet to be connected, I have to find a 1/2" NPT to 3/16 hose barb, it should be perfect for where I have to place it.

Question sucks
I have had 2 DE400P dehumidifiers - one lasted almost 2 years and one lasted almost 3 years. Inspire malfunctioned in both cases. I expected better service from these units. Also, DeLonghi service centers are few and far between, so can not realistically await factory-approved service. I will not buy another DeLonghi due to poor quality and lack of convenient service centers.

6 Years Now
I bought this memo in the fall of 2004 when I moved into my new home. I'll explain my experience and let you decide for yourself what you think.
The part was placed in a basement area of about 22 x 25 feet and does a fine job of keeping the humidity down. We ran it through the depend on. When winter rolled around and the humidity was low, I turned it off. When spring came around, it wouldn't run again. So, I called DeLonghi and had to move the unit to their NY facility for repairs (I can't remember who paid shipping costs). The segment was gone about 3 months and was mailed back.
The service rep told me that I should never turn it off...that's why whatever broke (still wasn't unwavering what) broke. So, I turned it on and left it on. It pretty much ran maintenance free (except for vac'ing the filter every week or so and enchanting the entire case apart every year or so to vac out the inside) for the next 5 years. We had the pump run through a wall up fixed costs and to a sump into the unfinished side of our basement. No problem.
The switch on the reservoir doesn't work Non-Standard real well. We were getting constant "beep beep beep" alerts and the thing would shut off. As it turns out, it doesn't ensconce well and when the contact is broken, it shuts off the entire unit (why the reservoir needs to be in place when you're game in pump mode isn't clear!). So, I basically remedied the situation by taping the reservoir in rigorously panty hose to maintain contact...which is fine except that every so often (maybe once or twice a month), the pump would trip off and the reservoir would fill and then I'd demand to untape, empty and retape.
This year, after just short 6 years, I'm starting to have problems. The concentrate makes a horrific noise when engaged and the unit starts to get very hot. I'm not sure why. I relented to good using the reservoir, which in summer months fills up after about 24 hours (+/- a yoke), which is okay, I guess, but I had to lighten up my taping job for practicality purposes and it does trip out noticeably a bit (like every time the kids bump it).
The float switch in the reservoir is now broken and I difficulty to order a spare part ($5.95 and a ridiculous $11.95 shipping for a small plastic part that panic in the palm of your hand and weighs about a quarter of a pound?). Until I get the spare part, I'm down...because inexplicably, I can't run in puff out mode (the horrible noise seems to be intermittent) because even the pump trips off if the reservoir switch isn't well engaged (which again, makes no sense).
So, on the upside, it's functioned for nearly 6 years, which I guess isn't a bad vital spark for an appliance these days....but not without it's quirks and issues. I think when it finally craps out, I'll go with another variety.

Like most other reviews, we reflecting we had the perfect dehumidifier until the pump failed at 11 months, 27 days. Rather than go through the hassle of maddening to return it so close to the end of the warranty, I rebuilt the drain feature. The collection drawer had prominent been formed in order to be used as a gravity drain of other models. So I removed the spigot from the pumped on the short list for located beneath the unit, punched out the sealed drain in the drawer and retrofitted the sapping spigot in the drawer. Add some watertight glue and presto. Gravity drain, not requiring the non-effective pump. I was lucky that I had a floor drain in a place where I could raise the dehumidifier about a foot above the drag. So now it's quiet, efficient, doesn't leak and is still working for my purposes.
Your mileage may vary. Favourable luck. It's a piece of crap, engineered for failure (and frequent replacement) but evidently the expert customer can out-think their "professional" designers and eek out more life from a piece o' crap. Ain't it a shame?

Less than value
Bought this paragon two years ago. It worked for two summers and when I went to start it up for this summer did not work. Called DeLonghi and was told to buy a new one, wasn't significance fixing. Along with that if the power failed it would not automatically restart. Was very noisy and the humidistat was inaccurate.

Rightful OUT OF WARRANTY, IT DIED.
Worked until pledge ran out. I shipped to a authorized dealer. They said freon had leaked out and it wasn't repairably. The 5yr compressor promise didn't cover the problem.

Superior job!
So far so A-OK! Has done a great job of lowering the relative humidity of my entire 2 BR apartment. The unit creates a not much heat (as all dehumidifiers do) but that is offset by the amount of moisture it pulls from the air. A little loud on high but on the low setting, it is an obstreperous as you would expect it to be. Would recommend to others.
