This Hunter isn't horrid, but there are other options that are better. Check out reviews at Air Purifier Power -- I am not affiliated with that placement, I just found it while shopping around and the reviews are unusually detailed.
For me, I ended up returning this Hunter and getting a RabbitAir item. It's more expensive up front, but its maintenance costs are significantly less than the Hunter's, and the RabbitAir's quality is much better. I ran the Hunter for a few days, and it was okay. I ran the RabbitAir one continuously, and it was much better. And the RabbitAir is significantly quieter.
Also, there are some other brands that offer cheaper alternatives and still are richer reconsider than this Hunter... I'm thinking Sharp and Whirlpool--a friend of mine has a Whirlpool and swears by it.

The Air You Hint at
The vascular surgeon I exertion for placed this model's bigger cousin in the surgical procedure room in our office. Loved the results! Some of the surgical dressings we wrap dogged's legs with post procedure drift small sized lint and fibers as we use them. The Hunter Air Purifer got rid of them.
When my asthma kicked up this year and I had to take an open medical leave my lung specialist encouraged the use of an air purifer especially in the bedroom. I purchased this Hunter paragon. I have had it for 2 weeks and love the results! We have 3 cats and the resulting dander and hair, plus the old room dust. They have really decreased since the Hunter was installed. I love the "white noise" and my quiet has no complaints about it either. It is not as loud as fan noise on a medium setting we have had in the bedroom previously. As it has a HEPA filter, I differentiate replacement filters will cost more, but should be worth it. A HEPA type air purifer was the only one recommended by my lung expert to reduce room allergens.
I plan to purchase a second unit prior winter to misplaced humble in the laundry room where the litter boxes live.
At Amazon's pricepoint and SuperSaver or Prime shipping I am recommending it to all our patients with asthma/allergies.
I told my surgeon leader about how much it has helped me and he purchased three more of the larger units, one for each exam room, so the dust will be reduced for me.
P.S. For cat lovers: Recently I began using a new cat trash Worlds Best Cat Litter 17 lb Originaland have really been pleased with it. No dust(silica dust from pottery products, this one is a corn product) when you pour it into the litter box, the best odor control ever, and much less tracking. If you have cats and allergies/asthma I greatly recommend checking into this litter.
Elevated allergy relief
Top product for the price. You can feel the difference in air quality and especially my wife and daughter who have allergies, this contraption is on all of the time now. It isn't super quiet on the med & high settings but it only would be switched on that high while we are out of the room and and needed some collateral air clean-up. One side effect of the air cleaner running on low all the time is how the room it is in feels a few degreees cooler than other rooms. It very moves the air around like a nice, quiet fan. We bought a 2nd one for another room!!

Tried it three times....taking this one!
We got this segment as a gift..it emitted a horrible burning smell that permeated half the house. We put it in the garage and ran it for a week..the get a whiff of did not go away. Contacted Hunter...very long waits on the phone. Once they do answer they are happy to help. We sent the string from the unit back and got a replacement unit. The second unit emitted the same awful burning foetor.
Went through the same incredibly long wait to customer service. They gladly sent us a original model altogether. I cannot understand how the third unit smelled as bad as the others. You would think before they sent a third unit out they might trial it first.
We am so disappointed in their air cleaners. We just cannot purchase a filter from this company. If you have lung issues...poor guidance clear of this company!

hunter 30090 is 1/3 the tariff----same specs as 30083
30378 is but air cleaner and deodizer. Includes built in ionizer, which i can use for a while then turn off. prefilter comes tidy by vacuuming with hand held vacuum-----i need to clean filter about every 2 or 3 existence. initially i had to clean prefilter every day.---air smells wonderfully clean. as far as i can see,,hunter 30090 does same fetich for about 1/3 cost of 30378. Other observation--Surround Air is more expensive at $180 dollars----but has uv obscure, nano particles and lots of high ratings. I am happy with quality of holmes 30378---seems to sterile about 500 sq ft. if i need another purifier, i will consider permament hepa filter models and uv features and nano particles. FYI----HUNTER CADR(Refinement EFFECTIVENESS IS 260/260/260. When i purchased i considered CADR AND ROOM SIZE VERY MUCH.
Respire BETTER AND SPEND LESS
I've been running the older side of this air purifier 24 X 7 for over 10 years...maybe 12. It is backed up against a wall in a vaulted-utmost room between a piano and organ where cats like to play. It takes up very little berth and consumes a great deal of dust and hair. The exhaust blows straight up the protection which is perfect for this location. Recently, it began emitting a high-pitch, undulating squeal. I supposed that the sealed bearing on the motor shaft was wearing out. So, I ordered this new Hunter Air Purifier. In the mean notwithstanding, I placed the old squeaky cleaner on its back and soaked the motor shaft with CRC Heavy Duty silicone scope while turning the shaft with my hand for 5 minutes. That was a month ago and it is still running as smoothly and quietly as new. The new cleaner is still in the box, however, I did probe it to make certain that it was in good working order.
How would you like to save a ton of money?
Solely like printer companies sell their printers at a bargain and then charge a fortune for the ink cartridges, air-cleaner manufacturers take up the same tactics with their disposable filters. Check their prices. OUCH! $30.00 to $60.00. For years I've been using the same pleated, tipsy-efficiency filters that I use in our central heat and air system. I buy them by the case lot(12), online from ACE Hardware for $4.00 each (clear shipping to store) and cut them to fit the Hunter Air Purifier. ACE runs frequent sales.
Now, how about the expensive charcoal-pre-purify? Check out the universal replacement pre-filter 38002. They cost about $10.00 each. I have found them in bulk for as low as $8.00 for every. Cut them to fit. Even the leftover pieces can be easily connected with the enclosed male strips of the pin & loop (Velcro).
Of all the air cleaners running in our home, this Hunter is the least expensive to run 24 X 7 because I can make surrogate filters. This is not the case with the large barrel-shaped cleaners and filters that circulate air 360 degrees. When the vat-shaped air cleaners die, I replace them with these Hunter wall-huggers.
When my back is against the wall, I don't go to the mall. I look for a steal. That usually begins with Amazon.Com.

Prodigious Air Purifier
I cannot feel what a great job this air purifier does. It is so quite that you forget that it is there. I have asthma and purchased this hoping it would lift. At first I thought that it was not working but gradually I started feeling better and the dust (I live in a spongy old house)has gradually dissapeared from the living area. The only drawback is having to clean the filters often but that is easier than dusting ceilings!

Handy ordering; great price.
I received this Hunter fan from a neighbor; so I didn't do any comparisons to others. However, the fan makes a tremendous transformation in my allergy relief. I recently got a dog who sleeps in my bedroom. Because I have allergies, I keep the fan running all the time. The exclude is easy to replace. Amazon ordering makes it super easy and less expensive. Unexcelled deal I found by far. The fan seems pretty solid (been using 6 months continuously with no problems). The only thing I do not like about the fan is that it has a crestfallen light and an orange light that come on when it's running. First of all, I don't know what these mean because they aren't labeled (there are symbols, but those don't apparently indicate the function). I don't have the instruction booklet and it's not labeled anywhere on the unit. I think the blue indicates when HEPA filtering is activated. What's most maddening about these lights, though, is that I have to cover them at night because they give off too much light into the room. I would prefer no light or a dimmer one.

I cast-off to purchase my Hunter replacement air filters @ Lowe's, but they discontinued the model # that I needed. So, I'm happy that Amazon carries it! I've had my air refine tower for 3 years now & the replacement filters do the trick to keep it running correctly.

Elevated purifier for the price
I've had this purifier for about 4 months now. It's been distinguished! I have a cat in my small apartment so I use it to clean the air of cat litter dust and dander... because of the litter dust, I've already had to change both the pre- and HEPA filter way before their time, but I guess that just means it's working. The pre-filter can can also be vacuumed or shaken out to unquestionable the dust. The noise is minimal, but I'm used to having fans running in my room already... I would plainly recommend the Hunter 30057 as a cheap HEPA purifier.
Also note that it takes a while for the initial plastic mephitis of the parts to fade, several weeks in my case. If you have a sensitive nose, you may want to look elsewhere.

Affordable air purifier
I have owned this air purifier for about 5 years and it's still active strong, it's also not any louder than it was the day I bought it. The noise it produces is similar to a fan on a low setting, kind of a stainless noise so to speak. The filters are reasonably priced if you find them on sale-they are currently on sale for 29.99 (reg 39.99) & I substitute them every 6 months. The carbon pre filter is much cheaper when bought from your local home improvement hold, they sell sheets of carbon that you can cut to fit.

Devotion It
I inamorata this purifier. It is quiet on low speeds and really moves air on high speeds. It does wonders for my alergies and destroys odors such as smoke or pets. Profound product and very cheap considering I've seen this model in the store for over $100.
Undefiled Air
Intimate product, no setup as the filters are installed. Quiet operating, if you notice more noise, on the filters. Easy to forget them as there is no filter status indicator except for a dial on top with set time frames. I'm remodeling so more dust so I've vacuumed the pre-screen and the main won't make the suggested time frame.
