Does the job, but blaring.
I received this ingredient just before Christmas 2009. Our house was so dry I was slowly pruning. At 1500 sq.ft. on the main knock over with 9 foot ceilings it keeps us quite comfortable and does the job. Have been running it straight since at December and no mechanical problems. Be aware of the following:
LOOKS: This cabinet model looks raise on the website than in person. It is a darker brown than shown (not as orange) but still a pleasing colour. It is made of paste and has a woodgrain pattern, but doesn't quite live up to getting away with it, mostly because of the slightly warped top discharge (yes, vents from top, cannot put stuff on top of here without blocking the ventilation). Ours comes out of the plastic hinge at the back and does not position well in all grooves, but probably not noticeable to guests. It needs to sit with it's back against a wall, as the back of the unit is not covered by a delicate woodgrain cover, although it is brown plastic. You also notice the black filter hooked on the shell back sucking "filtered" air into the unit. My favourite part is it's on four wheels, so it is very easy to move and vacuum around on my wood floors. Unless you have shag rug, it should also be actually easy to move on a short pile rug.
CONTROLS: It has two dials "humidity control" and "variable airflow". The humidity govern does not go by numbers (i.e. 50% - 75%) so you don't really know the current level of your home; however it does acknowledge you to set low / comfort zone / high arond the dial, and will toggle off when it reaches the desired humidity on the up set. We set ours 1/4 turn above the comfort zone and that works well. Note that setting it on high still doesn't peel your wallpaper, you can't even see the humidity opportunity out like you can on an ultrasonic BUT it does do the trick, as confirmed by the empty bottles I'm constantly refilling. The unfixed airflow dial goes from OFF/COMFORT ZONE (which starts immediately from off) to HIGH. This entity is LOUD!! When they say comfort zone they mean for your EARS. I only put it up to 12o'clock position (medium, I postulate) when I'm out of the room, and any higher is just noisy with HIGH being like a battering ram. The comfort zone is most artistically and since we situate it right by our kitchen/nook and living room we keep it low. (I know what you're thinking - we have enchanted it apart and rechecked our setup, it is correct with nothing unusual accidentally left inside, no proper reason it should be this loud. Only thing I can think of is plastic rumbling on four wheels with the echo of our hardwood floors - dialect mayhap it won't be as much of an issue for you).
BOTTLES: There are two large 2.5 gallon bottles that rest on the left and aptly of inside cabinet. They are easy to fill and the unit comes with a tube to help you fill from your tap. Also comes with one short bottle of bacteriostatic additive to get you going. We use distilled water so we don't have the hard water establish up in the bottom reservoir, you may want to use soft/distilled if you can get it or put an additive in to dissolve minerals. The bottles have handles on both top and bottom so when you twirl them over to place them in it is easy to handle the weight. We don't spill any water when doing this and it's a great think of. Also good are two "refill" lights that light up orange when each bottle is empty. They are easy to see through the grill on top as you're walking by, but not forward. Very easy to refill while the other still is going, no need to turn unit off.
NOISE and PRICE: It's the only big hindrance, and the price at $200 USD is steep for what it is. Would love to see real wood for that price, as there really isn't much to the section but a small fan, filter, and plastic.
All in all, there aren't alot of different makes on the market to determine from, especially ones that don't look utilitarian. This will do what you're looking for but be aware if you have unusual dryness in your compass and need to pump humidity with the control on HIGH, the noise from this baby will stop you from hearing your pet monitor and could keep you and baby up at night; otherwise, sleep soundly in the "Comfort Zone". Very complimentary cold air humidifier for winter above the frost line or in dry living area.

Does the job, bottles not interchangeable
I received this a connect days ago and so far so good. The humidity has gone from 40 to 50% in our house and it is much more comfortable. We do have a humidifier built into our oven, but the high-efficiency furnaces just aren't on long enough to put out much water.
One caveat on this section design with the angled corners - the right and left bottles are not interchangeable. With a rectangular epitome unit, when the right bottle empties you can switch the full left one to the right, fill the empty bottle and put it in the radical. This way you were constantly cycling through fresh water fills while only needing to refill one bottle at a moment. With this angle corner design unit, you really need to allow both bottles to empty, or at least replenish both when you do refill in order to ensure fresh water is always feeding in. This also can cause waste of any antibacterial working being used.
Other than that, works great and I would recommend.

Scrap Humidifier
This came with a 2 inch breeze scolding of tape on the bottom of the shipping box. I don't know how it made it here. We opened it up and it is damaged, of course. The lid will not fit on the product. I am so disappointed in this. Now, what a botch it is going to be to return it, even if we can. Cheap product, I say. Do not buy this item.

luckless quality
ON the addition side the unit is capable of putting a lot of moisture into the air. In the first 24 hours of running it put almost 15 gallons out.
The negatives hoard up fast mostly due to poor finish quality.
1) The stain on the top cover has drip marks on it and portions of it look like a chemical was spilled on it removing its luster.
2) The back of the entity is not stained but is white and in the directions its says to leave the unit 4" from any wall which means you do see the back of the element. The hinges on the back which hold the cover in place and stick up were not painted and they are clearly visible.
3) The part is made of plastic which is to be expected. However the panels of the unit are so thin that they were all warped. The top is ill fitting at best and the front panel has a acute bow to it.
4) Its loud on anything more then the lowest settings you cannot carry on a conversation on the telephone in the same room with it.
To sum up: It looks like jettison but humidifies well.
I'm off to go find a place to hide this from sight. Wish it was as pretty as the picture.

Unbelievable Humidifer
This fashion is great! I grew up with a humidifer in the house. This thing is 10X better than I expected! In Arizona this is a must. Those who say this fad sounds like a B-52, your crazy!!! It looks great and does an staggering job and keeping the house comfortable. Worth every penny!!! WOW!!!

A Suffering to Fill!
I bought this piece as a second humidifier. I thought having 2 would allow me to keep the humidity higher and refill less often. This was a tidy looking unit, 3 speeds, 12-gallon output, and 5-gallon condition. It wasn't difficult to put together but filling it was a nightmare! There is a single 2.5-gallon water liquor that is too tall to fit under most faucets. This is where the hose from hades comes in. You attach one end to the water faucet and chore the other end into the water bottle and fill it up...sounds simple doesn't it...it's not. The hose comes straight out of the box with kinks in it. When you enlist it to the faucet & turn the water on, a single kink will send a spray of water from the faucet end honest into your face. You have to massage the kinks out while running the water practically at a trickle to stay dry & get the decanter filled. It take twice as long to fill the bottle than it should. You then pour the water into the unit and start all over to fill the control a second time before placing it into the unit. I was so annoyed by the time I finished I had already decided to send it back. I tired out it, dismantled it, packed it back into the box & sent it back the next day. I then ordered the Essick 821000. This was the first humidifier I bought the year before. It has a 6-gallon tank competency & an open reservoir with no bottles. I use 2-gallon buckets to fill it and it is quick & simple. It is inexpensive and brief enough to fit in narrow spaces. I would recommend the 821000 over any model with bottles & hoses.

works but for how yearn?
Essick Air H12-400 3 Does it vocation: yes. Should you buy it? Maybe. It is hard to imagine how such a product could be designed and manufactured more cheaply. If I get one more than one season out of it I will be surprised. It makes me sad that American manufacturing has been decimated to the locale that we have to tolerate so many cheaply made foreign products. With a bigger motor and more substantial construction this produce could last many years.

Doing simply what we need it to do!
This artefact doesn't look too bad, even when it's in the middle of everything like it is in our house. It is rather large and the instructions say it should be at least 4 inches from any brick up, making the space required even larger. The quiet setting is very quiet, but doesn't seem to disburse enough moisture to entrust the immediate area of the humidifier. The other settings are quite loud but effective. We generally fill the humidifier twice a day and push it on the higher settings only when no one is home and it makes a noticeable difference in our ~1000 sq ft house. I would stand up for it for the price!

Frustrated with tank; have to refill frequently. Large console with only a 2.5 water container. Have to keep on low; too riotous if operated on higher fan speeds. When I received unit, the front had marks on it. Too busy to return, so I'm stuck with it. I advisable shopping for a more efficient unit..

Practicable but cheap
This section might be a fine humidifier but the fit and finish of the components is horrible. The casters are almost impossible to seat rightly, in fact I broke one and am now trying to get a replacement. It may work but I would not buy this again.

This device does the job.
Up here in the perspicacious north it is essential to have humidifier if you have musical instruments, or anything made out of nice wood. I have tried several dissimilar options, and evaporative humidifiers are the best. This one has enough nice features to warrent an excellent rating. The mains great feature is that it is easy to add water to the system. The tanks remove easily, and can be filled from the Nautical galley sink (they are too tall for filling in a bathroom sink). In the dead of winter assume to fill it daily, but fortunately this is big enough to only need filling once per day. Other nice features include a fan speed sway (pump humidity in fast because you were gone all weekend and its dry), or quiet. At low speed settings you no more than know its on. I also like the optional air cleaning evaporator. It apparently slows down air flow, but that seems trivial since the fan can solely be turned up.

Very Sound large humidifier
I've been using a muscular whole house or console humidifier for about 5 years. This is by far the easiest to refill out of any I have owned.

Very Agreeable to refill - No screw caps or tanks to carry.
Quiet in low mode
Large excellent reserve
Cons-
Lid is hard to get on right. Takes some time and patience, but you don't have to take it off to refill the part.
It is loud on the high setting.

Rattling question is unbearable
This humidifier is accessible to refill, easy to use. The problem is that the fan/motor rattles most of the time, and the noise is unbearable. The enumerate persists on both low and high speeds. When the rattling stops, the sound is very tolerable, but the quiet does not last. Stirring the unit from tile to linoleum made no difference. The Sears models are much quieter.
Another problem is that the strainer was in place rather than in a sterile package, so it was dirty on arrival.

Still bent it 4 years later
I bought mine 4 years ago and still works like a spell. I have no trouble with the low setting putting all 6 gallons into the air. Usually takes 24 hours. Yes the hi background is loud, but not as bothersome as the dry air. I turn it on hi during the day when I need the moisture fast. About the first time I start it up is the only but I really use the hi. Other than that we keep up with it daily and leave it on low. The digital gauge is wonderful. It keeps very close with the humidity monitors I have all over the lodgings. I'm not sure it carries the 1700SF it claims to, as we run 3 smaller units elsewhere in the house. I will most certainly buy another though when this one dies.

Very pathetic
I had been searching for a humidifier (or humidifiers) for my 1900 SF outfit, and was excited when I came across this model, as it was compact and not ugly like the console humidifiers I have seen. Best space in my house is somewhat limited, so I liked the fact that its upright design would countenance flexibility in placement. Also, I'd had good luck with Bemis in the past (had two H12 console units, in black, which for some rationality Bemis no longer offers), so I thought I'd give this a try. My intent was to order a second one if it worked well, since the output ratings on humidifiers are for the most part quite overstated and I knew I would need more capacity.
What a disappointment! The unit only has two speeds, and the expensive speed is LOUD. Now, I know that in order to put a lot of moisture in the air you have to have a pretty good fan blower, but this was droll. Much louder than the H12 I'd had before. Also, the humidity setting only scrolls up, so you have to cycle all the way through to get back to the lowest setting. I guess that's in reality more of a minor annoyance, but it was disappointing nonetheless.
But the real problem was that the unit just simple didn't add moisture to the air. We left it running all night, and barely any water had evaporated by the next morning. In looking at the portion further, there is a major design flaw- unlike most humidifiers, which draw air into the unit through the wick (where it then picks up moisture), in this example the air is drawn in near the top, and also expelled at the top, while the wick is lower in the unit, so the majority of air just bypasses the wick.
I am returning this item, and will have to bite the bullet and purchase another H12 console unit. I already own a Honeywell HCM-300T, but it's only rated 3 gallons per day and acclimatized in my bedroom at night. I am waiting for it to "die" because I don't like the fact that the cold air blows out of the BOTTOM of the unit, making an unpleasant rough sketch on the floor. I did consider the Honeywell 6011i but don't like the fact that it has two water bottles (less handy), and also the air blows out the side rather than the top. Bemis will get my business after all, but I can't believe they produced an inferior model like this.
