Don't conjecture its product specifications
I recently purchased this A/C section to replace my 14.4 EER Amcor NanoMax A12000E portable A/C unit (which is no longer manufactured).

Pros: It cools my range quickly and it seems to be true to its BTU rating.

Cons:

I am very disappointed with this unit. According the product specifications of the Whynter SNO 12,000-BTU ARC-12D, it has a power exploitation of 950 watts, which would give it an EER rating of 12.6 (12000/950). But after testing the unit with my watt meter, the part reached 1,127 watts in cooling mode, even on a low fan setting. That would give it an EER as low as 10.6 (12000/1127). Even though the power financier is about 0.98, it puts too much of a load on my electrical circuit, which is shared between two rooms with computers, printers, and lighting. I have to power down the electrical apparatus in one room to run this unit.

The specifications also claim that the noise level is 51.5 dBA. This machine is louder than my Amcor section, which had a noise rating of 65 dBA. The unit is for my bedroom, and it is too loud to allow me to sleep.

Another can of worms, is that this unit has a 5 degree temperature slack. For example, if you set the temperature setting to 72 degrees, the section will only start cooling at 77 degrees, and stop cooling at 72 degrees. This causes the temperature to waver repeatedly from 72-77 degrees when it is set at 72 degrees, which is completely unacceptable.

A smaller enigma would be the tubing and the window kit. Most A/C units use an adapter for connecting to the window slider in order to limit the width of the slider. The window slider for this unit is too wide. In order to make it m, I have to either use an adapter from another brand of unit, or replace my window blinds with vertical blinds. I have opted to replacement out my blinds. In addition, the unit uses an adapter to connect to back of the unit. The problem is that I cannot move the section close to the wall because the tubing sticks out too far.

Since I cannot return my unit back to the vendor, I have no choice but to tell on the unit and get another brand.

Summary: I do not recommend this product. I will never trust Whynter products again.
not what I concern it would be
recieved the Whynter Sno and scan the info which had both heat and cool operation. When I recieved an only cool version and contacted the companionship they said they were out of stock of the unit I was expecting and sent a cool only version. Shipment get were too great to send back and forth so I kept the cool version and bought a separate wood stove. Poor customer service to send the cool version when out of stock rather than notifying me of the cause c and ask what my preference was.
chilliness stuff
Unrestrained shipping and arrived just in time to beat the heat. Nice general show. The platinum silver finish is a real upgrade over off-white. The exhaust kit was put in place in less than 10 mins. Relaxing and intuitive to use. I use this primarily in the server room where temperatures get up over a hundred. It's a relatively small (220+sqft) I set it on aged and had it 18 hours a day for about a week. I walked in one afternoon and I actually felt chilly. Does a faithful job of cooling. It is fairly loud when on max cool, but doesn't bother me. satisfied++.
what is, but isn't?!
My woman and I were really anticipating the arrival of our new portable a/c unit during an extra humid stretch. When the Whynter at home it had some exterior damage. It took weeks to get parts and I learned that there was no service network unprejudiced their home office in California. This became an issue several weeks later when the unit started to roar when the compressor kicked in, then shortly afterward the compressor stopped altogether. The unit was never very tranquillity and the cooling effect did not seem up to our expectations. We have learned in comparison with a subsequent 14,000 unit of a rare brand that the performance of the Whynter was, in fact, sub par.
When we eventually got the repaired unit back, it was damaged to the point of foremost panels hanging unattached and electronics dangling from wires.
Had to send it back and this time it took until February to get it returned, again in pieces. Whynter had packaged the part very poorly and did not insure the shipments. When I pressed for some replacement they stopped responding to emails and phone calls all out. I had communicated with them in a very patient, calm and proper manner. To this day they have not responded to my communications. I have a broken a/c with a undertaking but no cool air to be found.
I write this review so that others may be potentially spared of a repeat experience.
Proficient portable
Having old this for about 3 weeks to replace my window unit, I am quite happy with the performance of portable air conditioner .It cools very soon enough and the setup was quite simple. It is quite portable and easy to wheel around. The color and conspiracy is nice for a portable unit. It arrived well packaged and within 3-4 days of my order. I had a few snare up questions and the manufacturer customer support was incredibly helpful. I would highly recommend this maker."

$500 DOWN THE Dressing
Who expected this piece of junk? I wanted the Haier (German engineering) and I cannot believe I let Kingerson's talk me into this Hunk of Waste! I am completely amazed that people rate this unit as being even remotely satisfactory. I spent the walk-on money for a portable unit so that I wouldn't run the risk of ruining my vinyl replacement windowns with a in-window segment. SO MUCH FOR THAT! The telescoping window panel does not fit in any of my windows. I had to go to Home Depot to buy caulking, endure stripping and LOTS of duct tape just to get it to "sort-of-stay" in my window. HOWEVER, with the two stout hoses attached, the panel keeps coming loose and falling out of the window... That's definitely energy efficient...NOT! Of course then the hot exhaust from the hose heats up the room, never mind the 90+ somewhat heat coming in from outside. The hose ends have to be attached to the hoses and they do not fit onto the hoses, I had to passageway tape them to the fitted ends that clip to a different fitting that screws to the telescoping window panel.(If it sounds too complex, then you're getting the idea). To undo this "clipped" fixture you have to be able to entend your closely grip (thumb on one side, forefinger on the other) to more than 6 inches and apply about 20 pounds of pressure to "unclip" the fitment. Unless you're Shaq, you probably cannot do this, making the simple task of unclipping the hose accessory a two-person job.

Did I mention the NOISE!??? OMG! When I wasn't busy being awakened by the hose falling out of the hose end, or the panel falling out of the window, then I was undoubtedly awakened every time the RIDICULOUSLY NOISY compressor came on.

The remote control that came with the piece is apparently strictly ornamental. The icons on the remote have absolutely no bearing on what's going with the energy unit. The remote says one thing, the machine is doing another.

The unit itself has a VERY BRIGHT pornographic LED light that literally lights up my entire bedroom at nighttime.

Oh, and last night, the unit tripped my wave switch. Thank goodness I woke up without the alarm clock!

Seriously folks... dated on this one.... A 5 year old could have come up with a better design. I had a wonderful 8000 BTU portable in the defunct that I left at a previous home rather than move it. Now I wish I had brought it along. I paid 300 bucks, it was generic, the sliding panel fit every window I ever put it in, and it was peace enough and simple enough for any one person to set up and operate. This unit however, is a complete waste of your money.
Exceeded expectations
I got this to end-piece the window unit I've been using for years and ended up just completely replacing the window constituent.
Very robotic design, it stands around 3ft tall and is in fact rather slim once you take it out of the packaging. Came with all the high-priority accessories to get it running immediately. Hooking it up and putting the hot air vent where my window A/C used to be was uncommonly straightforward.

We usually power it up after my daughter returns from pre-school and set the temperature to around 74F. It usually shuts off at about 2am when the latitude and outside temps are nice and comfortable. The air is extremely cold around the unit and gets a movables sized room down to a nice temp really fast. It seems very quiet during the day with all the other sounds and my daughter has slept like a indulge ever since we got it. I does emit a low hum when it's cooling but otherwise the fan sound is not noticeable to me. You can turn it on high for a few minutes but after awhile, that's overkill. It does a fast job on a low fan setting once the room is almost at the temp you want it at.

I really like the idea of not having to use key air like in our old apartment. I think over time the utility savings will easily cover the get of the unit. The best part is I can bring it with us if we ever move.

It's worked excellently for a couple of weeks now and I may just end up getting another for our own lodgings.

Whynter Eco Friendly 14000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner
Poor
I formerly larboard this machine running for 4 days and it only "cooled" 4 degrees. For two weeks I've tried everything i can about of to improve the environment for cooling and this thing continues to fail. Don't waste you time or currency.
So Far Outdo Than Expected
This portion was purchased to use in a small computer room. It is performing better than the previous 15000 BTU unit I had from a discrete manufacturer.

I hope with time it will stand up.

Window kit is tinpot
The kit they use to vent the hot, steamy air out the window is cheap. How cheap? I followed the directions to tighten the screws and with very little make stripped out the hole before the screw was even fully tightened. The plastic that fits in the window is declining. The part that connects the hose to the window panel doesn't attach well due to the same issue with the screws so ours knock out in the middle of the night. I've seen the exact same window kit on other brands of portable air conditioners so it could be that only one company is making the window kit and selling them to the multifarious air conditioner companies, so buying a different brand may not do you much good.

There is a work-around, tho. The enterprising few can cut a go out of of wood to the right dimensions to fit their window, weather strip it around the edges, and cut a hole to eject the air from the unit - it has a fitting on the end that attaches via 4 screws.

Another work-around (which we'll probably do) is replace the screws with nuts and bolts so they can't decrease out during use.

Other than that, the unit works fine. It weights around 70 lb, which isn't too heavy compared to some. We used it in a lodge that was larger than we should have, just to try it out and it cooled the room just fine.

Most of the moisture is evaporated and sent out the window but there is a tray that wishes to be emptied sometimes. Unfortunately it is not a pull out and dump type, but has a tiny plug about an inch from the thrash to drain the water from, so I guess you'll have to haul it to the shower to empty. This is also not uncommon for these types of portable air conditioners, lamentably.

Customer Reviews

Vast cooling!
Suave, relatively quiet unit. Cools my entire den (250 sq. ft w/cathedral ceiling) on low within 10 minutes. Elementary to install with good instructions. Has both a remote and on-unit controls. I am very happy with this unit and would guide it to others. Seller was PC4USA. I had a minor issue in needing a replacement part. I contacted them via email thru Amazon and within an hour had redress emails with a UPS tracking number and a replacement part in the mail from the manufacturer. Excellent customer help!
Streamlined cooling
So it's been hot and yes I've been at, but after a month of unrelenting humidity and heat, I finally gave in and got myself this Whynter portable unit. In part recommended by a beau and part cos I'm love clean designs. It came in a tall serious looking box and I was able to unpack and totally it up relatively fast. The unit itself was a nice metallic finish. Now for the real test. Temperature as reported on in the last hr was 87degrees. Turned the piece on high and set it to 70degrees. The room that I'm cooling is not huge but has about an additional 25sqft of closet play that I'm trying ot cool as well, so that's about 280-300 sqfeet of area and 12ft high ceilings. Stood in front of the piece for awhile to cool down. It felt very reassuringly cold. Definitely was working away.

Socialistic the room for about 35-40 mins and when I returned, it was definitely way more comfortable. I would estimate that it was close to 76degrees. That cooling count was trememdously better than the 2 year old window unit that decided to fail on my last month. It runs passably silent even on high. For the price and overall performance over the past couple of weeks, I give it a solid thumbs up.
Frightening
This pocket-sized A/C works great. I sincerely doubt that it will really cool a 450 sq ft area but it does a noble job for my bedroom upstairs...which is all I was really concerned with. My bedroom measures 13' x 12' or 156 sq ft and it takes about an hour to get from 85° F to 69° F. Site it up was a breeze. The only problem I had was with the window exhaust kit. The expandable PVC plastic window mount wasn't hanker enough to cover the entire height of my bedroom window...it's about 5 inches too short. I had to cover that lapse with a piece of plastic that I cut to fit and duct taped in place. One thing I don't like about this unit is the deployment of the exhaust hose...it's in the back. Some units have it on the top of the unit so that you can place the unit almost flush against the wall. The back of my constituent sticks out about a foot and a half from the wall which makes getting around it a slight pain in the stern...but hey, at least I'll be cool this summer :). Another con...it doesn't have oscilating louvers. The louvers are fixed and can't be adjusted up or down. There are lateral louvers behind the front grill that can be adjusted manually from side to side with a slider. Oh...and one more quirk...it's pretty loud when the compressor is running. It takes some getting used to.

Don't buy this! Your moneyed will be better tossed away
This offering started out really good. Alas, it went downhill quickly. After 2 days of use, it stopped cooling, so, my "continuance guy" husband checked it out, it turns out you have to tip almost completely forward to make it drain, to get it to cool again. HUH?!!!
Since we have it in the business shop, and started it earier in the day, with nobody to check it, we wasted a lot of electricity getting it to blow genial air. So, we decide to send it back. Shipping cost us $105.00. Then, once the company got it back, they " claimed" the item wasn't backward... HUH??!! so I incurred a 15% restocking fee, of $104.00 ( as I agreed to in my initial buy) So, I paid over $200.00 for lesson. ( thank goodness we can take it off our business expenses, because, I well-founded don't have that kind of money to waste in my personal budget. I don't have that kind of money to waste in our profession either, but, hey, live and learn.) The lesson from all of this is, "don't buy anything from Amazon that is heavy, shipping is ridiculous, and don't agree to a restocking fee at the society's disgression. buy only locally, and be sure you can return the item for a FULL REFUND!
Way Louder Than Advertised and Unqualified to Cool
This entity claims to have a 34 decibel noise level on low. Their idea of low is really Medium. I could hark to this unit from another room through ear plugs. It could not even cool my 300 sq. ft. room to 78 degrees after continuous it 5 hours.
I contacted the company. They wanted to give me a rebate only if I kept the unit. I told them I could not keep it because it was scurvy. They ended up canceling my rebate.
They have lost my business forever.
Outgoing little air conditioner
This is a titanic little air conditioner. I was skeptical about buying a portable A/C due to the many complaints I've read about them, but due to the restrictions in my NYC co-op prohibiting window air conditioners, a carriable was my only choice. I bought this to supplement the mediocre central air in my apartment, which is both too weak for the space it's obliged to cool, and not activated in time for the season's first heat wave. This usually happens in dilatory April or early May and forces me out of my un-air-conditioned apartment for a few days.

I was able to hook this part up quickly. I had to cut the plastic window assembly, which was too long for the width of my window, which was easy to do with a metal ruler and a utility blade. I also had to seal up the edges where the assembly meets the window frame, which I did by cutting some foamcore strips to the propriety width, covering them in black duct tape, taping them to the top and bottom of the plastic window synod, placing the assembly in the window, and sealing the joins with more black duct tape. Using passageway tape that matched the black window frame made it look neat and seamless. Excursion from buying the materials, it took around 30 minutes total to get this out of the box, hooked up and working.

This piece emits a steady stream of freezing cold air, taking my apartment down from the 73-76 degrees provided by the construction's unit to around 65-68, which I find much more comfortable. So far I've left it on most of the last 3 weeks and haven't had to empty it yet. The cooling is most effective away the unit, which I keep near my desk and bed, and less effective across the apartment in the kitchen, which is closed off allowing less issuing, and has a refrigerator emitting heat into the room.

The unit emits about the same amount of noise as a large fan. I find this untroubled to sleep to. Whether or not the compressor is on or off, the noise level is about the same. This unit is one of the smaller portable air conditioners I've encountered, which should prosper it easy to store in the winter.
Nicely meant and works like a champ.
I definitely adore the low profile design of this unit. It is very unobtrusive and compact. Don't let that fool you though, it cools like nothing else. The premium and brand are definitely on the high end but so far it's earned every bit of it in my books. Here's a little trick that I use that actually saves me a immature fortune in utility bills. I live and work in my apartment. I purchased 3 extra sets of window kits and plainly installed them in the bedroom, study/den, living room and dining room windows. Once I wake up, all I do is unhook the part, pull it to the next room with that very handy hidden pull cord and presto, hook it up and presto I'm all set for the next several hrs. Swill out and repeat as needed. Portable units are a great way to save over central air and this Whynter unit makes it very friendly to do so. At the rate that I use Air conditioning, I'll probably make it all back in savings in a less than a year. Totally pleased with support.
Rotten Customer Service
The mechanism has a poor design and is not able to exhaust water correctly from condensation. The drain for the motor is about 1 1/2" from the floor so it is not easy to set up a full time drain. I was told by the Whynter that maybe it was, "to humid to labour in Portland, Oregon!" I guess this means that the unit sold in the Central, East Sea-coast Northwest and Southern US will not work at all in those humid places!

I wanted to return the unit. They first wanted me to pay all of the shipping. Then they distorted their minds. Since the box was damaged they said it would be OK to pack in a sturdy box to return. As a severely disabled ourselves I was not able to do that and they would not pay to have the product picked up. I had not choice but to keep it and see if I could make it work. My care giver did put it on a barrow so that it would drain continuously, but that is ridiculous for a product that is supposed to work as is!

The cooling was useless at first, but has improved. In truth I had to make the product work myself when it should have worked out of the box.

I am also afraid that this time AMAZON did not provide very data d fabric customer support either. That really disappointed me a lot!

I see now that Target is selling the product. I hope they tried it out in Minneapolis where their HQ is to be found. If what they had was anything like I received they should not be selling this product.

DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!

The air-conditioner can be seen at http://www.whynter.com/AC_Consequence02.htm< br />
The water leaks out of the ac into a tray that sits on the ground. My dog keeps intake it. I stop her when i see her doing it.

The byproduct of the cooling technique is condenscation. Which is just cooled water. Most people recollect that there might be freon in the water.
I don't think it's a good idea to let the dog the briny it mostly because of bacteria that can build up in your air conditioner. It's filtering the air and bringing in pollutants to that strainer which is right up against the coils.
The bacteria/pollutants could potentially earn the dog ill but to be safe, but I'd still try to continue to keep it out of his reach or block it off.
