Customer Reviews

not very proficient, made room temp rise, pulling air from hot attic
I did a lot of check out on portable ac units and this one was one of the above average rated ones, but it did not cool the my room (20' X 15') because it sucked hot air from the roof space and surrounding areas and made the room hotter. It made the room drier, but it raised the temp in preference to of cooling it.

Pros:
price
12.11 EER rating, very efficient
6 amps, low amps wont turn on breaker
60 lbs. light weight compared to other portable ac units

Cons:
creates antagonistic air pressure, sucks hot air in from attic and other areas
54 dB rating, noisy

If you have no choice but to buy a portable ac, buy one with 2 hoses. It gets the air from front and cools the evaporator and blows hot air outside. It does not create a negative pressure (sucking operate), this drawing of air from the outside makes the room hotter, especially if you have it installed near an roof space.

Will be returning unit and getting a casement window unit which is much quieter, efficient and less spell hog on the floor.
Valuable fan
I have a man knuckle under in my backyard that was once a low income housing unit, then a big shed when I remodeled it. This cave is 13 ft off the mark by around 28 ft long and is very well insulated and in the very cold winter months is easily heated with a 40 dollar seat heater. I decided to buy this A/C because I have two windows that are not window AC accessable and this one was a little cheaper than others. The mounting kit works very well, I was very please with this. Covet story short, this AC does not have the power to cool this room, the air that is blows does not even sense that cold. I wish I would have installed an A/C through my wall instead or spent a little more for a more powerfull piece. Would probably work ok for a small bedroom because it is not that loud as well.
Light air conditioner
Well, what can I say except that this is a well built gadget, performing its magic in a hot room.
Surprising Appliance!
Let me start off by stating the circumstance that inspired my purchasing this artefact. I live in Louisiana, which is one of the most humid states in the nation. The central air unit in the apartment I persist in has a freon leak due to maintenance overflowing the compressor with it which lessens the amount of cool air it can release. The proprietor (landowner) does not want to front the funds to replace it, and naturally, with temperatures these days in the mid and exuberant 90s, my apartment can get pretty hot. So, I started checking around for portable air conditioners when a friend suggested I do so, and I stumbled onto the artifact page for the SPT WA-7500M 7,500 BTU Portable AC with Manual Controls. After doing a little inspection, this item had pretty good reviews with a few lesser ones here and there. Taking a chance, I went on and bought it, and let me tell you, I don't regret it one bit!

SETUP

The SPT WA-7500M is very easy to get set up. All you have to do is connect the hose to the component and to the window slider kit (which can be extended either horizontally or vertically depending on your window type). Be scrupulous though, for what holds everything in place are small screws that if you drop accidentally can be very tedious to find. Next, place the cloth into the unit, then you're ready to go!

OPERATION

Let me say that with it being 7500 BTUs, it can work effectively for a room no larger than 200 sq. ft. (where the apartment I have it in is about 150 sq. ft.). Any room larger than that, then you may want to consider purchasing one with a higher BTU rating. Otherwise, this output will do fine. It has three nobs which control various things, as well as four LED indicators that signal whether it has power (from the release), if fan operation is working, if cooling is turned on, and if the water tank (collects the moisture in the air as it cools the lodgings) needs emptying. The three nobs control the thermostat, fan operation, and timer (where the max time is 8 hours). I set the thermostat to about one bar shy of its coolest mounting, set the fan operation to low cool, and set the timer to 8 hours. It ran beautifully. I could feel the temperature in the room lessen visit very steadily, and the room reached a very comfortable temperature for me in about three hours, which is fascinating since my central air cannot do that in 24! When the timer reached 8 hours, the portion shut down completely on its own. I did not have to turn any nobs or anything, for it handle that step itself.

Overall, I have had a great know-how with this product. I recommend it to anyone who has a small room that you could use a cooling boost for added comfort.
For what it is, I give it 5 stars
In balance, my 500W window AC runs cooler, but this 620W portable is so much more convenient. In my area, we indigence an AC only for few days a year; it was a pain to mount/unmount the window AC in summer/winter. So this one is superlative here, just plug it to the power and window and we have a good night of sleep.

It uses only 620W (300W less liveliness consumption than other portable ACs in this class), so we set it to the lowest temperature and let it cool continuously. The noise au courant with is acceptable; we place it on upstairs and can barely hear it downstairs. Ran it for 24 hours and no desideratum to drain water. In case the light says the tank is full, don't drain the water too much as the top-grade tank is used to cool down the machine for better efficiency. I also cover the hot hose with thick the priesthood.

During a heat wave, we start it in the morning with all windows closed and it keeps our house to 87F while the surface is 105F. Without this AC, temperature would be 91F even at downstairs, too high to stay with and upstairs would be simply baking. 87F is OK, outstandingly for a day or two only. After the sun goes down, we still leave it on but open all the windows. This helps hugely on a heat wave in a otherwise level-headed area like Oregon vally. Hard to live without it. However, I think it is useless in a hot square footage like Texas.

The window mounting kit was missing, called SPT and a gentaman told me it would prosper in 3-5 days. What a customer support! While I'm waiting for the kit, I simply cut a hole on a small outright box and it works like a charm.

Unless your wife is a neat freak who asks you to unmount a window AC every winter, then don't buy a shirt-pocket AC. The latter is significantly less cool than the former. But if you're as lucky as me and your area is not hot enough to worth a central AC, then you'd better get this.

Very glad with the unit
I am very blithesome with the unit and it keeps my bedroom very cold and it is not very loud. If I have any problems down the road I will post them but in a beeline now I give the machine 5 stars!
9000 btu light air conditioner
I purchased this handy air conditioner because my very old central air conditioner broke down. It will be a while before it can be repaired. So with the 100 degree days we've been having. I hysterically needed something to keep cool.

The portable air conditioner came well packaged. It was easy to put together. My only complaint would be the window adapter for the dissipate doesn't fit my window. So I had to adapt it to fit. Otherwise, the air conditioner is quiet and cooled my bedroom and even an adjacent close in about about an hour. Keeping in mind it was close to 90 degrees in the house. The water pail holds about 2 gallons and took about 8 hours to fill on a VERY humid day.
air conditioner
I received this goods via UPS heavy load. I set this thing up, in hopes, of a portable A/C for our kitchen...not good. One, it is way to big and bulky for any allowance. Two, the exhaust hose, that you are required to use, cannot be flexed in any way. In other words, the unit has to be at least 4-5 ft away from a window and sit in the heart of a room. The window attachment could not be set up in our wndow, if used, I had to hacksaw it to make it fit. I decided that it would not calling for me. I then had to pay UPS to send it back, to the tune of 150.00! So, this is a product that cost more than 1/2 its price to return...so you heartier be sure its right for you..
Works well - some add'l modifications needed to instate
We purchased this item to help cool the 3rd floor of our townhouse which has been over 82 when the house AC is set to 77. (Temps have been in the favourable 90s here in Northern Virginia). The unit is fairly quiet given the size. It has carrying handles on the side that made it easy to lug up our 3 flights of stairs. The section must be vented to the outside to release the heat. The hose was of moderate length and the adapter show for the window was adequate. We had to cut it to fit our window. We also had to make a trip to Home Depot to purchase insulating fizz and tape to help hold it in place and plug the air leaks. We have the unit in a small bedroom and it blows frigid air into the hallway, a distance of about 7 feet. As far as water accumulating in the unit, we haven't had much. In our house it's about partially full after running it for an entire day. This may change when the humidity comes back. I am very happy we purchased this unit. We have been direction it for 5 days and so far I would recommend it.
Dies after 25 life span
We received a SPT WA-9000E 9,000-BTU Lightweight Air Conditioner on 6/11/10. There was an odd odor the first couple of times that we turned it on - a plastic smell would be the most suitable way to describe it. After about a week, my husband called (909) 468-5288 and left a message (no one returned the call). Later that day he called (800)330-0388 and spoke with a women who told him that as extensive as it was blowing cold air there was not a freon leak. She mentioned that the smell may be attributed to the styrofoam stuffing inside the machine. We just assumed that it smelled odd because it was new. We used it four or five times for maybe 3 hours each experience. Well today is 7/6/10 and it hit 100 degrees outside; there is no longer any smell BUT THERE IS NO LONGER ANY Icy AIR BLOWING OUT OF THE MACHINE. I have sent an email to Sunpentown through the Amazon site. I want everything in writing with on to how to get this 80lb piece of crap back to them. The financial burden should not be mine after having this item for only 25 days. I will update with their rejoinder.

Update: July 7, 2010 - Customer Service has been very nice. An exchange is in the process . . .

Update: July 13, 2010 - Semi-d. We received the replacement today but the coolant leaked all over it. I called customer service and was told UPS must have dropped the box. He told me to put it back in the box and UPS would pick it up tomorrow since it was destabilized, and ANOTHER replacement would be sent out today. A return label was sent with the replacement in order to dealing the first air conditioner. I was supposed to take that one to UPS myself and use the box from today's delivery, but today's delivery is going back. We just want to be done with it. I called back to importune a refund rather than take a chance with AC #3. Fortunately, UPS will pick up AC #1 the same time that they pick up AC #2. I was on the phone with sunpentown several times today and they were faultless and patient, but this is such a hassle. At least I found another box big enough to send back AC #1. Free Super Saver shipping was not offered when I purchased this filler, so I hope my shipping charges are refunded as well. (I don't have the heart to call back to ask since I have tormented the poor symbolic enough today. To be continued . . .

Update: July 14, 2010 - UPS did not show up. The short version of the saga: Stayed place to wait for UPS man but found out late in the day (after numerous cranky calls to both Sunpentown and UPS) a "damage inspection" needed to be scheduled, before a pick-up could be scheduled. Sunpentown rectified setting by scheduling a pick-up for Friday (7/16/10) and UPS will inspect the damaged item (AC#2) on their own situation. Unfortunately, they cannot pick up AC#1 with AC#2 (different circumstances, hence different trucks and drivers). So I am lugging AC #1 to a UPS instal tomorrow. I want these God forsaken machines out of my house!

Customer Reviews

Air conditioner was a soul saver ...
I purchased the SPT WA-9020E air conditioner when my essential system cratered. I put the SPT in my office. It works very well. There is one thing that must be done, however. I had to port the water outlet hose to the face because Houston is very humid and the unit created a LOT of water. After I got tired of emptying my container, I purely drilled a hole in the window barricade and ran a small rubber hose to the outside. This part has done a yeoman job from the beginning!
hose too dumpy
I reckon I assumed that portable AC units would be portable beyond 6 feet from the window. Clearly these products are meant for situations where a window unit cannot be employed because of the window and the weight it can support.

The exhaust hose is in fact 8 ft long and does not allow you to place the unit between two rooms or move it around the house as needed (because you would lack to connect it to a different window) - which is what I thought they were.

Buyer beware...if you intended to use it as it is expected, works fine. The unit is a little large, but it does pump out a lot of cool air.
Not recomended
This piece is not worth it. It takes hours to cool down my 100 sq ft room. I have a 5,000 btu window module that kicks butt compared to this one. Also, not convenient at all. You need to place a drip pan underneath to grasp the water and it only allows a 1" space at the base. I had to build a 4" platform to deify the unit high enough to sit a basin at the bottom to catch all the drip without having to empty it every 1 1/2 hours.
Vile, Very Loud, Doesn't Cool
This 9000BTU AC is meant to cool a 250 square foot room, so I thought it'd be more than enough for my 190 square foot bedroom. When I turned it on, I was sure-fire it would make things cool pretty quickly, because it was very loud. . . my wife and I called it the "jet mechanism" during the brief time before we sent it back. Instead it was only able to cool the room by about 3-4 degrees, even when I let it run all edge of night. I tried it for three nights before returning it, and one morning when I woke up, it was actually cooler outside the diet than it was in the bedroom where the AC had been running full blast for about 12 hours. Pathetic!

I replaced this unit with a 6000 BTU window constituent by Frigidaire. Even though the Frigidaire is only 2/3 the BTU rating, it makes less than half as much noise and was able to chill my fairly small bedroom from 100+ and humid (we're in the middle of a major heat zigzag in the Northeast right now) to about 72 degrees in about 90 minutes. Needless to say, the 6000BTU replacement will get a lot less to run as well. . .

Also, I know some people don't care about this kind of thing, but this Sunpentown AC is just incredibly ugly. From the photo I wasn't at bottom sure if it would look cool and futuristic in person or clunky and overbuilt. Guess what. . . it's the latter! It objective looks junky and designed by a twelve-year-old who was trying to draw a Camaro instead of a in smithereens of furniture that's supposed to look fairly decent in your house. Most appallingly, and although it doesn't look so bad in the insignificant photo online, that beige insert for the louvers looks like it came from some twenty-year-old production of office equipment (remember when everything was the same hideous beige?) and it's totally out of place with the silver/shiny plastic used everywhere else.

I had a portable AC by Maytag that lasted about 7 years and worked very well, but this Sunpentown I bought to supplant it is a terrible failure in all respects: ugly, the loudest air conditioner I've heard since I was a kid in the 1980s, and it doesn't chilliness worth a damn.

The only nice thing about the entire experience is that I bought it from Amazon, so it was incredibly tranquilly to return! Thanks, Amazon, for being so freaking awesome. . .
Superior product
I have essential air, but my bedroom upstairs is usually 5-10 degrees warmer than the other bedrooms (vaulted utmost). This product works perfectly even though the room is much larger than 250sq ft. This small AC only costs 50 cents a day to run, considerably less than running the central air. It's quieter than I expected and the air is very discouraging. The only thing I don't like is the instruction manual - just not enough info. The exhaust hose must be mounted suitably to the outside through a window. All portable AC units create a vacuum in the room and if the exhaust hose is not wellnigh air tight, more warm air from outside will come in than cold air blowing out. I have had it for a week now and it has yet to destitution the water reservoir emptied.

  • Uses A-one to cool the air; oscillating louvers for even distribution
  • Preparations 12 by 16 by 25 inches; 1-year warranty

Description

This Evaporative Air Cooler, Humidifier, and Fan is all-round, lightweight and economical. The Cooler easily rolls from room to scope for use anywhere in your house or office. This Air Cooler shoots a stream of air with oscillating louvers, to evenly order refreshing cool air. Can also be used as a fan or humidifier if temperature is not an issue. The poor control allows you to easily change settings. The Air Cooler works by endothermic reply (a reaction that consumes heat), so this evaporative Air Cooler sucks air through a wick saturated with be inconsistent. As the air flows through the wick, some of the water evaporates into the air, consuming the heat that was in the air. An air course is then blown out the front of the unit and is considerably cooler than the current room temperature! This is not an air conditioner and therefore uses much less energy. The section works well in dry climates; not very effective in areas with high humidity as the section utilizes water to cool.

Customer Reviews

Sunpentown Manageable Evaporative Air Cooler does just that.
Works gifted (in dry heat, of course) and I'd recommend to friends.

It definitely keeps the temperature down by at least 10º, and I find the blare of the fan quite soothing.

The only problem is that our dogs and the cat splay themselves around the entire cold-air area (about a 10-15 foot swathe), leaving very little cold-air space for the 2-leggeds.
Stopped Working!
I bought this cooler in September of last year. I acclimatized it about 3 times. This year I used it once then I went to turn it back on for the second time and it won't even turn on. That sucks. I have this big module and nothing to do with it. I want to return it but nowhere to return it to.
Under control Cooler
In an accomplishment to lower our power bill by using our air conditioner less we bought a couple of these portable coolers. We weren't guaranteed what to expect, but they help cool the family room and bedroom while saving on the air conditioner. Our June power bill was less this year than 2009, so we're pleased as Punch with the results.
Go out of of crap
The only gain thing I have to say is that it showed up faster than I expected.

The "cool air" function is broken. The thing keeps beeping at me (which indicates it's out of not ring true) despite having filled the reservoir to max as instructed. I let it run for a bit because I thought it might just need a bit for all the systems to get universal. After 48 hours, it's essentially behaving like a really bulky fan. Not what I paid for. I'll be returning this.
not for the midwest
I dont reccomend this to anyone where its hot and sticky . I dont know about anyone else but it doesnt help me at all.It was a waste of money.I have tried it several times at novel heat levels and no help at all.dont know what adding ice does ,because it doesnt pinch me at all.

Getting worse
I bought this upshot in the summer of 07. I live in a room over the garage that gets the brunt of the sun and therefor reaches 78-80 degrees even with the AC on. At first the section after running for a couple hours would drop the temp to 72 on a summer day but no lower. The first Maytime/summer I did not have to change the water at all. The next spring/summer it could only drop the temp down to 73-74 and I had to metamorphose the water 5-6 times. Now only less than 3 years later we are in the midst of our first 80 degree week. The entity is only dropping the temp to 75 and I've had to change the water twice in two days.

Please read everyone's comment about how hard it is to change the water. I can confirm every complaint.

If I had to do it over I would have gone another route towards cooling my live.
danger only not for real cooling
I'am a certified EPA HVAC Tech that chooses A/C and Electronics as a pastime only because I make more income by other means and the reason why I bought this unit is strickly as a backup means for gale aftermath. I ran last night to mimic hurricane scenario and was disappointed at performance keep in mind my reside is 15X15= 225sq.ft. I purchased 12000 BTU unit should be kicking a** but doesn't :(

PROS
mobility
detached control
plug into any 120v outlet
removes much hummidty

Cons
Somewhat noisey but passable just need to crank TV volume
Doesn't really drop temp much for measurements of room
Room temp at start 78Deg will not drop lower than 75Deg sad
Bad performance if looking for perennial solution
Works for me
I bought this section in June 06, so I'm on my 3rd year of almost constant summer usage. The unit is a little piercing (about the loudness of some fans set to their highest setting), but that doesn't really bother me because it cools the abide like it is supposed to, and I hate heat more than noise :). This is the first year that I've had to empty the tank. It indeed leaked a little, but since it wasn't on a carpet, that was ok. My bad, because it does say to empty it occassionally, and I was just being lazy. The rubber boost was a little confusing at first (I couldn't tell if I needed pliers to unscrew it, or just my fingers to draw it out), but I finally realized that it was "plug like" (i.e., just needed my fingers to pull it out of the duct) rather than an "outside cap" type that needed to be unscrewed. The area that it is cooling includes my dining territory, living room, and small kitchen. I keep the downstairs bathroom door closed, as well as the doors to the two rooms off of the staircase unsurpassed upstairs, so it's probably cooling about 450 sq feet. I placed a small fan between the dining and living elbow-room area to help "push" the cool air into the living room since there is a wall that blocks some of the course. I bought a second unit for my brother in 07, and it also works well for him.
2 Years and No Problems
I've had this Sunpentown handy AC for nearly 2 summers and so far I have no complaints. It has worked flawlessly. My family and I live in a 2nd floor leave unit that bakes during summer days, and the walls radiate heat well into the night, so having an AC constant in the bedroom at night is a must in order to sleep comfortably. Initially, we tried running it in our living area area (which includes the kitchen) during daytime hours, however this is just too small of a unit to be very affective in that rotund an area (again, where the walls radiate the suns heat). It took a little bit of the edge off, and if you are sitting directly in front, it does feel good (like the AC in a vehicle). Alas, we keep it in the bedroom and turn it on in the dilatory afternoon. By 9pm it's cooled comfortably.

Emptying out the water tank can be a little bit of a challenge since the orate is so low to the ground -- I usually use a shallow cookie tray or muffin tin (rinsed definitely afterards) to collect the water. But I seldom have to empty it -- once every month or so.

I actually appreciate the "tumult" that the compressor makes when it's on -- white noise helps me sleep.

I feel very confident in Sunpentown, and if I'm in the market for another AC, I'll look to them first.
Over 2 years and still prospering strong!
I bought this two years ago when my partner was pregnant and we were having record heat waves and we were without A?C. It did the trick and two years later it still works like a champ. Refuge't had any of the issues others posted about. This brings nice cool air into my room and shortly after I turn it on, about 20 min. the room is as purposeful as I want it. Good Luck!

can you recharge a sunpentown wa-1220e air conditioner?

Can you recharge it with a recharge kit?
Papa C, Can't r-22 and r134a be adulterated in the same system?

According to the maker's website that unit uses R22 refrigerant. It can only be recharged by an EPA certified HVAC tech. You might be proficient to save a little money by finding a local exchange school to work on it. Otherwise, find an air conditioning contractor that will let you drop the part off and save yourself a trip charge.\

Brandon - The two refrigerants aren't of one mind. They operate at different design pressures and temperatures, and the oils required for both refrigerants also aren't in agreement with each other. R134a was designed to ultimately replace R12, which was common in automotive air conditioning and refrigeration applications. I'm apologetic you'll have a whole host of problems if you blend the two.

My Sunpentown Portable Air Conditioner – 10,000 BTU Digital W/ Remote & Heater is on Comp Mode?

My compact air conditioner isn't not functing correctly. It's on COMP mode and I don't skilled in what it means and I dont have the manual. Can someone please help me? Thanks!

It means the computer is locked up, did you UNPLUG the power twine for 5 minutes to reset it?

Gotta start there...

May purchase a portable Air conditioner / Heater. Need info on how well they provide heat.?

A representation that I am considering is the Sunpentown WA - 1220H.
It provides 12,000 BTU of cooling and impetuosity. I would like to know if the heat will work in any cold temperature, or is there minimun temperature at which they control. I need a system that will work in any cold temperature. How long do these heaters last? I am looking for a oil-burning stove that is energy eficient. This unit uses only 950 Watts. If I only use the torridity, would the unit have to be vented or drained?

All the answers should be on swearing-in leaflet.
if Not.
