why it might recycle on and off
From AJ Madison, explaining why some populace might have had problems with constant on-and-off cycling: BTUs determine how much cold air comes out of the unit, but problems can take place if the air conditioner is oversized for the space. The more cold air that comes out - the more area it needs to circulate to shun giving the thermostat a false reading. If the unit is oversized, the cold air bounces off the partition off back onto itself giving the thermostat a false reading - causing the compressor to shut off because the thermostat reads that the set temperature has been achieved. While the part is off - the thermostat is able to read the room's actual temperature, which kicks the compressor back on. This function will continue, causing the compressor to cycle off and on every two to three minutes, but never staying on long enough to effectively bold the room or remove uncomfortable humidity.

bizarre, buy it
This is a mark, quiet, cold producing unit. Had a AMCOR unit previously that was mediocre for cooling and stopped working in one year. I gave it to a different place on Ctaiglist. You will not regret purchasing this unit.

Sharp Pocket AC Exceeds Expectations
I purchased this Sharp original after considerable online research. I was interested in a unit that didn't require a water pan to be emptied, could impertinent a room of about 150 square feet, and operated with minimal noise.

This Sharp unit meets all the requirements. Even on the lowest home the room is cooled quickly. The install was simple although the framing can easily be removed from the case and entry to the room is possible. People in more dangerous areas may not want this setup or should find a way to unthreatened the framing to the window structure.

I am most impressed by the noise level of the unit. On the low setting, which is all that's required to cold the room, this AC is significantly quieter than a window unit. The manual is clear, the remote is drug friendly, and the unit has a sleek, modern design.

A portable AC is never a perfect solution, due to its hereditary inefficiency, but this machine does provide practical benefits and great value.

Important purchase
Hello,

I've recently had this element shipped. It's fairly big and heavy (95 lbs - check out dimensions to make sure it will fit and go extra room on both sides for air intake) but at the same time very quiet and effective.

I'm used to either key air or through-the-window type of AC but performance, design and remote control functions of this unit are well above my expectations and I wouldn't stutter to buy it again.

Meant for not-so-restful sleep
Where I spend, the temp only breaks 95 a few times a year. Because of this, it is hard to justify the cost of median air. The better option seemed to be a portable AC. Use it when you need it, stow it when you don't.

This review is not about some of the points discussed in nearer reviews. Yes it is heavy, very heavy, and yes the window attachment is cheap but I am not going to re-hash those issues.

For this journal I wanted to focus on the unit for bedroom use. My main observation was that, for sleeping, this unit (possibly all units) has a lot to be desired. I positioned it right next to my bed thinking that it would quietly maintain a nice bold temp. My first disappointment was how slowly it cooled. I put it on max cool then left the room for about 2 hours. While it was cooler when I returned, it wasn't unreservedly.

After settling in to bed, I was presented with my second disappointment. My "library quite" air conditioner was LOUD. Not solely the compressor but the bubbling/gurgling of the liquid inside the compressor. Worst of all, when the room reaches temp and the compressor shuts off there is a booming WHUMP sound. Not unlike the sound of someone dropping a box of bricks. It kept waking me up all tenebriousness and I ultimately had to turn the unit off.

In conclusion, this is a solidly built machine with great fit and achieve. Once it got up to speed it did do a relatively good job cooling and I like the remote and overall design. However, if you are in the family way this to be a whisper quiet cooling machine that will sooth you into restful slumber...think again. You will be discouraged.

As for me, I will probably return this unit. The main reason I bought it was for a cool restful nap and this is something it does not provide.

Unrealistic - Don't Hold Back!
This fetich kicks more @$$ than a horsejockey. We used this to replace a GE 10,000 BTU unit we've had for a considerable all together - the difference is night and day. Very, very cold air that has a ton of force behind it's airflow, it cools off a summer heated 13' x 16' dwell literally in seconds, and we live on the top floor of our apartment building, so that's saying a lot.

As far as noise goes, it's truly quite quiet, and you get used to the machine's minimal noise very quickly. Consider the alarms level a soft-to-medium white noise at it's possible worst. I am partial to light-skinned noise, but if you're not, don't worry, this unit will be more than satisfying.

This is an EXCELLENT air conditioner for the price (looking back I'd have paid more if I had to, it's that virtuousness), and I recommend it to anyone looking for a window unit.

Greatest $400.00 I ever spent.
I bought this entity for additional cooling in our bedroom. We just cant seem to get the airflow to keep the room comfortable at night. I guestimate 2 adults and 3 dogs in a 12 x 12 room generate quite a bit of heat sleeping.
The element has been great. It's actually quiter than the oscillating fan we have in there. I read complaints about compressor noise, and I place of safety't noticed this. I'm a light sleeper, so I was worried about strange sounds waking me. I did think the fan could be a bit more compelling, but I guess that would also mean noisier. Just the same, it does cool the room down fairly with all speed and keeps it cool all night. We're taking it out to our camper for the weekend to see how it does in the wild. At $400, it's about partly the price of buying an additional rooftop airconditioner. Granted, we have a 42 foot trailer with wealth of floor space, so it's not a problem for us, but could be for other RV'rs who might consider this option. For those who reported this unit being noisy, I'd have to say you should take it back and get another. My segment is no noisier than any window unit I've had, in fact it's a bit quieter than some I've had.
UPDATE: We liked the first one so much we decided to take it out to our camper and see if it could plagiarize keep that cool. Works like a charm. The single 15000 BTU roof air on our 42' trailer reasonable wasn't enough to compete with the 90+ degree days we have. The addition of this unit, kept the trailer in the low 70's at the hotest something of the day, and chilled it way down to 64 at night. Not a problem.

So... we left the first one up at the trailer and bought a new one from Costco for bailiwick. I must say, it is a bit noisier than the first one. the fan is a bit louder, but still not as loud as the ocilating fan we have. Also, it does occaisionally clunk when the condensor shuts off. Knowledgable our other unit is much quieter, I was temted to box it up and swap it out, but my wife insisted we give it a week and see if it's really blasting or we're we being a bit sensitive. LOL we still have it. it is a bit noisier, but certainly not noisy enough to be objectionable, and it definitely cools just as well as the first one.

It exceptionally is library quiet
I purchased this air conditioner last year. It's very soundless and easy to move on wood floors. I really like the dehumidification mode. The one "con" is that you must use the remote, but is not a puzzle for me, so I give it 5 stars.

At rest mode is very quiet
Cautious of Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R5JQB8ZM6EPA8 In this video, we actually measure the noise made by the Sharp CV-P12PX shirt-pocket air conditioner using a sound meter app on the iPhone. The 41 dB "library quiet" craze appears to be an exaggeration - we get something more like 53 dBA in low fan mode, and 63 dBA for normal operation. But it's still a fair quiet and slick air conditioner.

Big enervate of money
If you can get it to run, it's very dissonant. I got it to run at first start once. Most times it took 1.5 to 2 hours to start. You have to wait 5 to 10 minutes between each try, so it was very strident having this unit occupy your time for up to 2 hours to get it to start. Not worth the money. Worst grip I ever made. I only gave it one star because Amazon won't let me give no stars.

Huge air conditioner
We too have porthole windows so choices are limited. At first, we didn't quite know how to install for our particular casements but we figured it out but adapting an old wall. I have had this unit now for over 2 years and it still works great. Some reviewers have mentioned the lack of switches on the section, but I haven't found that to be a problem, there is a place for the remote on the unit so, that's where we keep it. I also like the design of the unit. It looks virtue and is easy to move around and store until next season. Others have also mentioned it's quiet and others that it's not quiet. First, all air conditioners are noisy. You either have compressor thundering or just the moving of air noise. I find this unit to be pretty quiet. Is it library quiet? Well, it is not, but it's lovely quiet when you compare it to other air conditioners. I don't have a problem sleeping with it on.

Until someone gets around to inventing a tiny, ductless, skinflinty and completely quiet air conditioner, I will be very happy with this model. In fact, we were so happy with the first one, we bought a second a year ago--for the third lowest level, and all is good--no problems--fairly quiet, efficient cool air. I should mention that there are several options for contest the unit--you can run it as a fan--and as an exhaust fan, you can run just the dehumidifier--often useful for those really humid days, you can run the ionizer--which I improvise has something to do with purifying the air and of course as an air conditioner--with various fan speeds etc.

Good unit, I would definitely buy again.

Does what it advertises for the prcie

This is my third handy unit ( the other 2- Edgestar was trash, and Fedder was okay this is by far the best). It does scrupulously what I expected it to do and better than the last 2 units I have had with higher BTU's ( 13000).
Its fairly quiet ( hello the compressor is in the section IN the room, not hanging out a window so its not going to be library quiet, ever and no portable unit is), its not too awkward and it cools approx. 350 sq feet in 15 minutes to the point of being livable and in another 15 to essential comfort, starting with an 84 deg room temp. and using the mega-cool property.
Putting in the usual hose connection assembly together etc. is with all portables a tad of a hassle but its as good or bad as my other 2, it is what it is.
I over recall the price to value range is excellent.

Main design flaw
I purchased this by-product online and it was dead on arrival. SHARP sent their designated warranty repair guy who took the inanimate object apart and found that the internal fan, is twisted and can't turn because it touches the inner insulation.

After 2 weeks of negotiating with SHARP, they unquestionably to send me a replacement since the original can not be repaired. Guess what? The second one has the exact same problem to a lower degree. The fan rotates but it touches the internal parts again, making a horrible nouise.

Don't buy this yield, SHARP will be sued for this!

Instate Central A/C or window unit if you can, otherwise this is good
First off, the trade-mark name is "Sharp", not sure why the title on this is "Ha Sh".

Appearance
This unit is huge, about 3 ft tall and 2 ft by 2 ft at the base, it certainly looks bigger than it looks like in the photo, so appoint sure you have the space (you're supposed to leave 1 ft clearance from walls on all sides for effective functional). Moreover, the unit is heavy, about 100 lbs, so if you plan to put it on the second floor make sure you can manage successfully it up the stairs.
The unit looks nice and the quality of the material is decent.

Installation
The depot is pretty straight forward, make sure you have a window where you can stick the exhaust announcer. The included parts support both double hung and slider windows. Basically some persuadable panels to cover the opening. The manual suggests that you use the included brackets to fix the plastic panels in lay, but I didn't want to make holes in my window sill, so I just used seal and it worked fine.

Operation
It's a portable unit, so don't expect it to cool your room down like inside A/C or a window unit does. I put it in the hottest room of my house (kitchen) which faces west and gets in reality hot during summer. The A/C cools down the room a little bit but I still feel warm unless I sit right in front of the A/C.
when the A/C is cooling, it's not particularly "library quiet" but after reading reviews of other portable A/C I figured it's considered quiet for a little.
The main unit only has the on/off button, so you need to use the remote control to make all the adjustments.
