met my expectations
I ordered two of these for the two upstairs south fa rooms of my house. Both units came packaged well, but one looked like it might be a return. There was no deface on the unnew unit other than 4 cracks in the exhaust hose which duct tape took safe keeping of, and there was no plastic film overlay to protect the control panel from scratches. Take off 1 star. That said, there is no seeable difference in the performance of the two units. The window vent kits mounted easily, and the units do a respectable job of keeping the rooms cool. Matter of fact, the smaller of the two rooms actually got too ice-cold until I turned the thermostat up. The units are not quiet, but bearable and much quieter than the in-window units I was usual to as a child. The filter is easily accessible and the unit appears to be easy to maintain. One reviewer complained about an supplementary intake filter being inaccessible unless you take the unit apart; this is so, but it's not listed as a required care item. It's a screen on the side of the unit that I intend to vacuum periodically - I will report back if that doesn't do the mislead. Draining the water is not a task I relish, but it's more convenient on this unit than a larger portable a/c from another industrialist which I have cooling the family room. This unit can't compete with a central air system, but at 1/4 the price of inside air for 3 portable units, we're enjoying this summer in relatively cool comfort. I may report back after I see the first galvanizing bill.

Air conditioner was a mortal saver ...
I purchased the SPT WA-9020E air conditioner when my inner system cratered. I put the SPT in my office. It works very well. There is one thing that must be done, however. I had to port the water outlet hose to the face because Houston is very humid and the unit created a LOT of water. After I got tired of emptying my container, I barely drilled a hole in the window barricade and ran a small rubber hose to the outside. This part has done a yeoman job from the beginning!

hose too shorten
I suppose I assumed that portable AC units would be portable beyond 6 feet from the window. Clearly these products are meant for situations where a window unit cannot be employed because of the window and the weight it can support.

The exhaust hose is faithfully 8 ft long and does not allow you to place the unit between two rooms or move it around the house as needed (because you would necessity to connect it to a different window) - which is what I thought they were.

Buyer beware...if you intended to use it as it is expected, works fine. The unit is a little large, but it does pump out a lot of cool air.

Not recomended
This point is not worth it. It takes hours to cool down my 100 sq ft room. I have a 5,000 btu window item that kicks butt compared to this one. Also, not convenient at all. You need to place a drip pan underneath to find the water and it only allows a 1" space at the base. I had to build a 4" platform to rescind the unit high enough to sit a basin at the bottom to catch all the drip without having to empty it every 1 1/2 hours.

Unsightly, Very Loud, Doesn't Cool
This 9000BTU AC is meant to cool a 250 square foot room, so I thought it'd be more than enough for my 190 square foot bedroom. When I turned it on, I was positive it would make things cool pretty quickly, because it was very loud. . . my wife and I called it the "jet machine" during the brief time before we sent it back. Instead it was only able to cool the room by about 3-4 degrees, even when I let it run all sundown. I tried it for three nights before returning it, and one morning when I woke up, it was actually cooler outside the cat-house free than it was in the bedroom where the AC had been running full blast for about 12 hours. Pathetic!

I replaced this unit with a 6000 BTU window segment by Frigidaire. Even though the Frigidaire is only 2/3 the BTU rating, it makes less than half as much noise and was able to unheated my fairly small bedroom from 100+ and humid (we're in the middle of a major heat tide in the Northeast right now) to about 72 degrees in about 90 minutes. Needless to say, the 6000BTU replacement will outlay a lot less to run as well. . .

Also, I know some people don't care about this kind of thing, but this Sunpentown AC is just incredibly ill-favoured. From the photo I wasn't really sure if it would look cool and futuristic in person or clunky and overbuilt. Guestimate what. . . it's the latter! It just looks junky and designed by a twelve-year-old who was trying to draw a Camaro as contrasted with of a piece of furniture that's supposed to look fairly decent in your house. Most appallingly, and although it doesn't look so bad in the humiliated photo online, that beige insert for the louvers looks like it came from some twenty-year-old holding of office equipment (remember when everything was the same hideous beige?) and it's totally out of place with the silver/silver plastic used everywhere else.

I had a portable AC by Maytag that lasted about 7 years and worked very well, but this Sunpentown I bought to return it is a terrible failure in all respects: ugly, the loudest air conditioner I've heard since I was a kid in the 1980s, and it doesn't overconfident worth a damn.

The only nice thing about the entire experience is that I bought it from Amazon, so it was incredibly effortlessly to return! Thanks, Amazon, for being so freaking awesome. . .

9000 btu compact air conditioner
I purchased this shirt-pocket air conditioner because my very old central air conditioner broke down. It will be a while before it can be repaired. So with the 100 degree days we've been having. I uncontrollably needed something to keep cool.

The portable air conditioner came well packaged. It was easy to put together. My only complaint would be the window adapter for the expend doesn't fit my window. So I had to adapt it to fit. Otherwise, the air conditioner is quiet and cooled my bedroom and even an adjacent bailiwick in about about an hour. Keeping in mind it was close to 90 degrees in the house. The water pail holds about 2 gallons and took about 8 hours to fill on a VERY humid day.

air conditioner
I received this upshot via UPS heavy load. I set this thing up, in hopes, of a portable A/C for our kitchen...not good. One, it is way to big and bulky for any range. Two, the exhaust hose, that you are required to use, cannot be flexed in any way. In other words, the unit has to be at least 4-5 ft away from a window and sit in the centre of a room. The window attachment could not be set up in our wndow, if used, I had to hacksaw it to make it fit. I decided that it would not travail for me. I then had to pay UPS to send it back, to the tune of 150.00! So, this is a product that cost more than 1/2 its price to return...so you crap-shooter be sure its right for you..

Works well - some add'l modifications needed to instal
We purchased this element to help cool the 3rd floor of our townhouse which has been over 82 when the house AC is set to 77. (Temps have been in the favourable 90s here in Northern Virginia). The unit is fairly quiet given the size. It has carrying handles on the side that made it soft to lug up our 3 flights of stairs. The unit must be vented to the outside to release the heat. The hose was of centrist length and the adapter piece for the window was adequate. We had to cut it to fit our window. We also had to make a trip to Current in Depot to purchase insulating foam and tape to help hold it in place and bung the air leaks. We have the unit in a small bedroom and it blows cool air into the hallway, a distance of about 7 feet. As far as soften accumulating in the unit, we haven't had much. In our house it's about half full after running it for an entire day. This may change when the humidity comes back. I am very overjoyed we purchased this unit. We have been running it for 5 days and so far I would recommend it.

My most suitable purchase
I purchased this air conditioner (WA-1220M) three years ago and I can plainly say that it is the best purchase that I have made. The unit does wonders year-round.

I live in an status in northern MN, less than a mile from Lake Superior. The summer temperatures do not typically exceed the mid-80's to low 90's, but when you add lavish humidity, it feels much hotter than the actual temperature. This unit does an AWESOME job at dehumidifying and it also cools my occur to a comfortable temperature. It also has fan settings that I use year-round.

Unlike a previous rater, I have no problems with the window seal (I even have dividend length of the "foam" that they include).

The drain for the dehumidifier does use a flexible plastic tube and, while it may not be *epitome*, I find that it works well. (I elevate my unit a couple of inches and have it continuously drain into a large indentation that I can then empty).

Although this unit is technically a portable unit, it is rather heavy. This is not a problem for me because I do not have to carry it up/down stairs on a harmonious basis - the wheels help me move it from one location to another if I choose to switch things up, but I typically simply keep it in my bedroom and find that it works well.

BOTTOM LINE: This product exceeded my expectations. Not only does it cool my rank, it also dehumidifies amazingly!! It also has a fan that can be used year-round and an air filter that helps clean the air in my lay.

Do not buy from this New Zealand
This partnership makes products that are useless. Unfortunately I did not read the other reviews before purchasing from them but now am experiencing first turn over there shoddy workmanship, if you could even give them that. Used it for two days and worked ok, now just blows hot air. now I have to deal with all the hassle of returning, which I can doubtlessly only exchange it for another lemon. These products are a waste of money and given all the other negative feedback, this convention should be reported to the better business bureau if they haven't already

Array the right item!
Its two years since I purchased this and happened upon this tie today. I remember doing a great amount of research when I bought this unit. It is NOT like the one being reviewed with 2 stars.

One key sharp end - it has two hoses - input and output (not one like many units out there). It's very good at evaporating the top it takes out of the room (the two hoses are supposedly responsible for this efficiency). I have yet to empty the tank. The unit comes with a window case that holds the tubes in place (its made of heavy duty plastic).

As to moving it around, no big problems - it is a creature to move on the stairs, but ..... its an air conditioner, not a fan.

I normally use it to cool down a 20x20 room (9 foot ceilings). It does take longer than I'd like, but if it's a moist night, it gets the room in a "sleepable" condition in about 1 hour.

The reason for not giving it 5 stars is that the meagre control gives you options that you can't get from the panel. If you lose the remote, you lose the functionality (there may be a cryptographic set of buttons you push to get the function, I haven't figure them out yet). The manufacturer's site is lacking in docs.

Tickety-boo A/C
I bought this AC after reading the 2 leading light review and I am very glad I did. I live in the college dorms and this AC does an excellent job cooling my cell and I have not experienced any of the concerns posted by the other reviewer. I've got a few other friends with Portable A/C units and none work as well as this one.

The wheels unfold fine on the dorm room carpet, I've had this A/C for over a month and have yet to empty the water tank, and this A/C gets my lodgings as cold as I could ever want it, and could get it even colder if I so desired.

I got this unit on sale for ~$230 and this has been a great investment.

A vile waste of money!!!
I've had one for a duo of months, and am VERY disappointed with it. It puts out cool air, but definitely not cold air... Consequently, at vanquish, it can get my bedroom down 10-15 degrees in temp, after several hours of running full blast. (Note that I very soon gave up trying to use it in my livingroom, where it would make almost no detectable change in room temp...)

A MUCH greater choice I think would be to go with a std window unit (albeit it would be more difficult to install). It would m much better, and be much less expensive as well!!!

Unwasteful ,very quiet ,very cool , low energy consumer
Before buying this part , I did lots and lots of research. Consensus seems to be that you need about 40% more BTUs for a portable air conditioner than for a window AC and about an new 10% more in BTUs if room gets lots of sun. I think this is why so many posters on many portable AC reviews(all brands)wail of lack of cooling. They buy units that are too small because they base it on the BTUS needed for window units. You can use a search mechanism to get guidelines for size or AC needed. I use this Sunpentown 1010E in a 275 square foot range that gets lots of afternoon sun. It cools very well with a strong air flow. No matter what you buy, look for cubic feet per one sec air output. More air flow , more cool air. This one is 276 cubic feet per minute, which is more flow than many of the others of its area.
The foam insulation for this unit is ugly looking but it does seem to fill up the gaps in the window room so no air seems to get in or out. I keep the hose straight and as short as possible(it accordian folds to shorter length)so that hot air exits right away and there is less heat reintroduced into the room.
Re ugly foam:You can also go to a store that sells and cuts plexiglass to window crevice size and have them cut a circle to vent the hose(pricey because cutting a circle is expensive-$25 for the circumambulate and $5 per straight cut for the plexiglass edge). Gives a nicer look tho than the foam insulation! Someone else on another website recommended Formular(see corning website) rosy foam insulation board that you can cut with exacto knife to fit the window and a hole for the hose. Dow also has comparable insulation board--there is one that is foam board and one that is styrofoam. I got the foam board because it is more rigid and because it has a moisture resistent coating. Recollect that it will be exposed to the outside of the house and might get some rainwater/sprinkler water on it. Also, the foam comes in corpulent sheets(96" high and 48"wide). I brought a box cutter to score/ cut it down to fit in my car. Tempered to a six inch wide piece in my sliding glass door. Traced the inner circumscribe of the exhaust nozzle
and used box cutter to make cuts around the circle and punched the set out. I fit the hose through the hole and then attached the nozzle on the other side to keep hose in place.
I see Sunpentown also separately sells a metal sliding window put with hole(other companies include it for free). Not sure if it is for this model or not. They have a website and very helpful buyer service. I called them with questions twice before I bought.
I live in a dry area so I never have had to drain soda water. The machine also uses air condensation to cool the ac coils further so it is very energy efficient with great air fell and cools very well. Very, very quiet. I compared all portable acs in 9000 to 10000 BTU range to find the one with lowest watts departed and this one draws only 873W / 8.15A. I have 15 amp breakers and didn't want to cause tripping or overheating of wiring. Would have gone for 12000BTUs if I had 20 amp side since I have very sunny room. Cools well and better if you start it earlier in the day when not at highest heat of the day so it doesn't have to trade so hard(true for any ac actually) and will work more efficiently
Additional notes:All portable acs have non-insulated hoses, you can wrap them with insulation to triturate the amount of heat regenerated into the room.Also, the unit and hose should not be in the direct sun.

Depressed with purchase - returned after 1 week
The notion of a portable AC is great. The Sunpentown machine itself is great, it really churns out cool air. The problems with the conspiracy in my opinion, which any potential buyer needs to be aware of, are the following:

1) the exhaust pipe wealthy from the machine to the window is not insulated, so it actually becomes very very hot when the machine is operating at full bore. It is not hot enough to pose a threaten when touched, but it actuallly re-heats the room on the way to the window. Overall the room does unruffled down but there is an inherent inefficiency in the way the room is cooled on one side of the machine then partially re-warmed on the other. Commercial units I've seen utilize an insulated hookah as exhaust.

2) The window mounting supplies for the exhaust pipe are a complete joke, a official slap in the face to the consumer. What is needed is something rigid which can be sized to the window frame. The house supplies a piece of flexible foam to be cut to fit. It barely stays upright in the window originate. Handy people might want to cut themselves a piece of plywood or plexiglass instead.

The company has a potentially wonderful fallout. They need to supply a better (insulated) exhaust, and more realistic supplies for the window mount.

Blow up! Avoid it!
It couldn't distant an 11x12 room (high ceilings) while a window a/c with half the rated BTUs does ok. Its fan is very, very stentorian (although not the compressor).

GREAT customer support for a ROTTEN product. Avoid it!
