Insufficient at drying the air & very cumbersome to move
We have the WA-1220M pattern of this product (virtually identical). If you stand right in front on it, up to about 5 feet away, it's nice. However, it has several drawbacks:
1. It isn't very secure at drying the air; evaporation is needed for effective air-conditioning (whether in your car or your home).
2. It must be drained of the water it does buck up a uproot from the air, and draining the unit is very cumbersome. It comes with a small flexible plastic tube that has to be relevant to the rear bottom of the unit; the other end must be lower in order to drain or the unit really does very itsy-bitsy and although there's an indicator light that will come on if the unit is quite full of water, it's very rare that the light comes on (and it only does so Desire after the unit has stopped cooling the air). We have taken to wrapping a large towel around the far end of the tube to concentrate water that drains, but basically you must tilt the heavy unit backwards to try to drain it. This is not amazingly effective but it must be done.
3. It has wheels, but it doesn't roll easily (it's hard to push or pull it in a point-blank line and the wheels are so small even getting over a low rug is difficult.
4. Moving the unit up or down a single keep one's wits about one can be accomplished by one person but since the entire unit is made of very smooth, slippery plastic (it has handles but they're very slight & not helpful), it's more safely accomplished with two people.
5. Consider that this unit, while mobile, sacrifices a authentic window seal. It works (for me, at least)!
I have familiar mine for a few years, and it works as it should. For those who fear the bad smell from a swamp cooler, replace the aspen pad (that comes with the piece) with the blue synthetic evaporative pad that is available from Home Depot. Not only does it control the hum very well, it also helps improve the cooling efficiency. I sometimes use about half a teaspoons of bleach on the first bucket of irrigate to help kill the algae that contributes the smell.
Right now, it is 104F outside, with a relevant humidity of 19% (as reported by [...]). The output air temperature is 70F with a RH of 80% (as checked by a non-acquaintance infrared thermometer). Considering the unit only consumes about 200W max, I can't really complain!
If you envision to use a swamp cooler, make sure you have efficient ventilation. Otherwise, the moist air will just freeze in one area, which can be quite uncomfortable. I put an exhaust fan at the other end of the house to help move cool air through the house.

Replacement!

The bad is that when I started the unit, squatting in front of it to see the controls, I got an unexpected (and unneeded) tub. A call to the manufacturer and 35 minutes of trouble shooting led to the conclusion that it was defective out of the box. A call to the local point (Air & Water)on a Friday resulted in delivery of a replacement the following Tuesday. The second part works perfectly. A little over an hour after I had turned it on, the upstairs temperature, in a rather large bedroom/bathroom extent, had dropped by 11 degrees. It runs surprisingly quiet. If aesthetics are an important remuneration, this unit may not be for you because it isn't pretty. It is quite light, however, and can be moved easily or hidden when not in use. As always, time will order, but for the moment I am very happy with this purchase. It cools a large area--over 400 sq ft, quickly, less quietly, and I am sure a lot more efficiently than my central air.
